As you probably know, the campaign in Diplomacy is Not an Option consists of four branches: King’s, Rebels’, Sarranga’s and for the Undead. Today, let’s discuss Sarranga’s branch — which probably offers the most peaceful game ending. And don’t forget to check out our new video about it!

Following your arrival to the new continent, you find yourself surrounded by a local tribe. Fight or learn their ways? If you choose the latter, you become a subordinate of Princess Shankhar, who will send you to do some tasks and earn Sarranga’s trust. Build a city while fighting bugs — and droughts, kill a massive monster, deliver its head to the leaders… What else will be your challenge? Play the branch and find out! In any case, the environment will be on the enemy side.

In third place is They are Legion — almost 10% of players like it! This map is also the hardest among the winners we are announcing today!

Tacticon — a festival of tactic and strategy games — has started and with it comes our new update, bringing to the game a new Endless Mode map!

The new map is on the easier side, accessible to more players, and features highly requested Sarranga troops, three mountain passes to defend from attacks of the Royal army and an expansive, devoid of enemies valley for building and developing your castle. Try out Trident and tell us for how long you managed to survive!

• Trident — a new Endless Mode map, where player has access to Sarranga troops, as well as plenty of space for building a castle, making the map accessible for more players.

General

• In Map Editor it is now possible to place enemy troops on enemy walls;
• In Map Editor it is now possible to place Buggy Nests as enemy buildings.

Improvements

• Sorted the list of available languages in Options. This may cause language setting to reset on the first launch after the update;
• Some UI improvements.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue which caused an incorrect building category icon to be shown in Population Growth step of Tutorial;
• Fixed an issue which caused Decor buildings to be selected as well when selecting Builders’ Houses by pressing (Ctrl)+(LMB) or double click (LMB) on it;

Our not-so-secret-now update is arriving on July 9th, with the start of Tacticon — one of the biggest events for every fan of tactic and strategy games! And to celebrate that, we are adding a new Endless Mode map! As usual for the mode, in the new map you get to defend from incoming attacks as long as you can, proving your skills and your knowledge of game mechanics.

Trident is a map on the easier side of the difficulty scale, and features a massive mountain range separating your castle from the Royal forces. Serving as a natural barrier, it creates a massive valley where you can expand and build without enemies bothering you. The mountains don’t provide you absolute safety though, as there are three gorges that create paths for incoming attacks. Still, you can use the cliffs to your own advantage and build your defenses accordingly.

The side of the mountain range where your castle is located is not only well-protected, but is also rich with resources — cliffs are full with stone and iron, and the shore is brimming with fish.

The other side of the mountain range, however, is riddled with Royal Army camps. While you don’t necessarily need to venture out, resource piles lying there can help you a lot in developing your castle. And there’s never enough space, isn’t it?

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue with a tutorial window in "An Offer One Can’t Refuse" and "Ambush" Campaign missions covering the "Create group" button thus making it possible to progress only by using the Ctrl+1 hotkey. This issue occurred only in certain languages.

June is about to end, which means we are back with another map created by players for players! And this time we explore 31 Day 4 Corner Chokepoints by Shrekt!

As the name suggests, this map features four chokepoints, located in the corners of a massive mountain range that surrounds your castle. This makes the middle of the map (mostly) safe — that is, when you clear enemy camps. Early attacking waves will try to interfere, but they aren’t numerous enough to pose much of a threat. Together with plentiful resources, you can swiftly expand and develop.

But early attacking waves being weak doesn’t mean the last one will be the same. Enemies will throw everything they have at your defenses, and that’s what you need to prepare for: a massive attack from 4 directions, ready to raze your walls and army.

The map is moderately difficult, it can be a relaxing adventure for some players and a challenge to others. Bonus points if you don’t use magic! Yours, the Door 407 dev team

Marvellous monuments

A new set of buildings was added to the game. Decorate your city with statues of your favourite DiNaO characters!

Map Editor now also features more decorative objects that are not available in missions — make your maps even more unique!

Improved process of learning game mechanics

Not just an improved tutorial! The rework involved multiple aspects of the game, and one of the changes is optional quests that were added to some campaign missions. The quests will help players grasp the general feeling of DiNaO’s gameplay loop, ensuring an easier journey across the battlefields. Bonus crystals are granted for completing them and serve as an additional incentive. Note: it’s possible the quests might be incompletable in saves made before the update!

Another new mechanic is an advice system. After making certain actions for the first time, players will receive a tip explaining some aspects of the game. Of course, if you feel like you’ve already mastered the game, you can turn them off in Options.

And naturally, the tutorial was also expanded and polished — together with the siege guide mission in the campaign (An Offer One Can’t Refuse in the King’s campaign branch; Ambush in the Rebels’ branch). Now there are more learning steps!

Polish localisation

Speaking about polish, the list of languages DiNaO can be played in was expanded with Polish localisation!

• Eight statues which you can use to decorate your city;
• Certain statues are available only when playing for certain factions.

General

• Advice system — after performing particular actions players will receive relevant tips in the UI;
• Optional quests — in some campaign missions there have been added optional mission goals that teach players specific gameplay mechanics of DiNaO and provide soul crystals as reward. May be incompletable in old saves created before the update, which will not affect general mission completion;
• Polish localisation.

Improvements

• Reworked the siege guide mission in the campaign (An Offer One Can’t Refuse in the King’s campaign branch; Ambush in the Rebels’ branch). Old saves of this mission may work incorrectly;
• Reworked tutorial. Old saves of this mission may work incorrectly;
• Enemy buildings that produce attacking enemy groups are now marked on the minimap;
• “Burrdam Chimera”, Sarranga Bombus and “Thing” That Can’t Exist now have visible explosion radius in 3rd person view mode;
• Some UI fixes.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue that would break the campaign map in old profiles, making it impossible to continue the campaign;
• Fixed a rare issue that could prevent a mission from ending after defeating the last attacking wave;
• Fixed an issue in Map Editor that prevented walls from connecting properly;
• Some localisation fixes.

As we’ve announced previously, another major feature of the upcoming Hot Update is the improved process of learning game mechanics of Diplomacy is Not an Option! Let’s explore what this includes.

First of all, the reworked tutorial. It will be expanded to cover more important aspects of the game, giving players better understanding of core mechanics.

An Offer One Can’t Refuse mission (in the King’s campaign branch; in the Rebels’ branch it is named Ambush) — the one that teaches players various aspects of controlling siege machines — was also completely reworked.

That’s not all, though. We are also adding special in-game tips. Those are different from the tips the game shows in loading screen, but will dynamically appear after players perform certain actions for the first time.

And finally, as you can see above, we are expanding objectives in some campaign missions with additional, optional goals — quests. These quests will not only guide players through the missions, but will also help them grasp the deeper concepts behind DiNaO mechanics and provide some crystals as a completion reward. The Hot Update is already in works, and today we are ready to show you the first sneak peak of what it brings. Decor is coming to DiNaO: soon you will be able to build marvellous monuments of your favourite characters to please the eye and show where your loyalty truly lies. See more here!

The next update being the Hot Update means that there were some changes to the roadmap. So, what are the current plans? The Hot Update releases this month, in June, and will include, beside decor, drastic improvements to how the game helps players learn its mechanics. This includes: tutorial rework, optional mission objectives for Campaign and additional in-game tips. The Penetrative Update is planned for August; the precise list of changes will be announced later.

And last but not least: the vote for the best custom map of Spring has concluded. The winner: Trio of Discord by SuGaRtOxA and Golden Mantis! Congratulations! As a reward, their names will appear in the game in one of the upcoming maps.

The Bigger, Longer Update is already out! And with it comes the direct control feature!

If you missed our previous teasers, direct control is a fun option that allows you to possess any troop you can hire, and control it as if you are playing an action game. You can also use skills (though keep in mind that while we’ve managed to transfer most troop skills into third-person view, some proved to be incompatible due to the original strategy design).

Now get into the game and join your forces on the battlefield in person! Control infantry and cavalry, ranged troops and the Undead monsters! Or have a relaxing stroll across your carefully built city. In any case, the power is in your hands!

May is about to end, which means we’ve been looking for another custom map for you! Today we explore Vampire Coast by Biro Biro.

The Undead find themselves on a not-so-desolate island, surrounded by all sorts of opponents. Desiring full control over it, your goal is to clear the surrounding area from enemies and to bring your best singer, a Nightmare General, to a designated zone.

The zone is heavily fortified though, so you will require a strong army to break through. And you can’t delay attacking it if you want to have access to Level III buildings and troops — the area you start in is totally barren of Death Metal. Coincidentally, there’s plenty of it right where you need to get to!

So gather your forces, and meanwhile, trading is not an option — it’s a must!

Today we are releasing a small update which improves visual effects of light emitted by torches: now it isn’t overly bright, allowing you to see units in a new light.

Also, you might have noticed that with this update the game icon has changed. The new icon is not entirely new, but one we’ve made long ago and never used. Jokingly, we promised ourselves to use it one day when Diplomacy is Not an Option reaches the mark of 1,000,000 sold copies. Now it’s here, and you’ve probably already guessed why — there’s over 1,000,000 pupultas in our community!

Another month, another custom map for us to check out! This time we played Special for Easter 2026 map (a bit late but better than never) by siedlaczek!

The Undead celebrate Easter in their own way — with an Easter Bunny hunt! Every Easter they gather on this small (but fun!) map to partake in this important event. Of course, bunnies in Diplomacy is Not an Option are not as white and fluffy as they may seem, but with a hint of a murderous glow in the eyes… Which is precisely what makes the hunt interesting! Even if something in the air makes them a bit less strong than they usually are.

Surely bunnies are not sitting ducks, and they have their objections to dying. Expect four attacking waves to hit your base, and make sure they don’t reach it: with their big teeth they chew through buildings as fast as through the Undead flesh. The Deep Update has finally arrived! You can already install it and take a look at the reworked research tree. Or, you can read this post first to learn what has changed.

The reworked research tree…

The research tree has received a major overhaul — and not just visually. Now the Sarranga and the Rebel troops have their own research, which will be available in the corresponding campaign branches. The old technologies are still there, though they were moved around a bit, and a bunch of new research was added to expand the variety of tactics.

…and some highly anticipated features

You’ve asked — and we deliver: with some new research you can obtain more information about incoming attacks, making it easier to plan your counters and defences. And not only defence, your offensive capabilities can now also be enhanced with the right technology — like the one that grants your siege machines additional damage against enemy structures.

Improved visual effects

As we’ve mentioned before, another feature of the update is new visual effects for some player buildings. As such, your towers, gates and Town Hall are now illuminated by torches, adding warmth and coziness to the darkness of night. Additionally, Houses I, II and III now change their looks if they are affected by City Fountain’s special effect — easy to see where you need to build another one.

• The updated research tree! Depending on a mission, the amount of available research may be over 100!
• The Rebels research options. Available in the Rebels’ campaign branch, hidden in other branches;
• The Sarranga research options. Available in the Sarranga’s campaign branch, hidden in other branches;
• All research is available in Sandbox Mode and Map Editor;
• Patched saves. If you had saves with technologies researched, they will be transferred to the updated tree;
• We have the technology… achievement (for researching all technologies in a single mission) can be received in any campaign mission where players can construct buildings required for unlocking technologies. Hidden research options do not affect it;

Improvements

• Reworked the next attack information hint. Now it shows icons of enemies involved. Depending on which of the two technologies you have researched — Keen-eyed scouts I or Keen-eyed scouts II — it may also show information on enemy amounts — ??? with no research, estimates (dozens, hundreds and so on) with one research, or the exact number with all research;
• Added torches to towers, gates, barracks and the Town Hall that illuminate surroundings during dark nights;
• Houses affected by the City Fountain’s buff now have different visuals from the unaffected ones;
• Added a toggle option to the research window to open it on research completionMultiple UI/UX fixes and improvements;
• Multiple UI/UX fixes and improvements;
• Some SFX improvements (including sounds of waves — they can now be heard at shores only and not all across the map);

Balance

• Raider with shield (player’s unit):
• Health: 30 → 40;
• Regen: 1/sec → 2/sec;
• Rebel hulk (player’s unit):
• Training time: 7 → 12 sec;
• Movement speed: 0.9 → 1 cell/sec;
• Rebel catapult (player’s unit):
• Training time: 20 → 16 sec;
• Rebel ballista (player’s unit):
• Every shot now penetrates 2 additional targets behind the initial one, if there are any along the trajectory of the projectile;
• Training time: 20 → 16 sec;
• Sarranga’s nimble one (player’s unit):
• Health: 55 → 45;

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a rare bug which caused save corruption after rapidly pressing F5 and F9 during loading screen;
• Fixed an extremely rare bug which caused missions to continue after the Town Hall destruction;
• Fixed a visual bug which prevented oil pipes in walls (that appear with researched Pipes inside walls technology) from changing visuals during draughts (mission Assimilation process in Sarranga’s campaign branch);
• Some localisation fixes.

Today we are taking another look at the upcoming Deep Update.

The main point of the update is the reworked research tree. Under our tender care, it has expanded, dropped some old branches and grown new ones. The most important additions are, of course, branches for the Sarranga and the Rebel troops — soon they’ll unlock their full potential.

The whole tree now is more concise and convenient: research are now bundled together by tiers and not as spread around as they were before. There’s even the long-awaited option to open the window on research completion!

Tier I and II troops will also receive a bunch of new research. This way they will be better able to keep up with troops of the higher tiers — more power at the same cost!

Pupultas!

The Deep Update is getting closer and closer, and we want to show you what we are working on!

As you know, building a castle is an important part of the game. So, for the upcoming update we’ve decided to pretty your cities up a bit.

First of all, we’ve added illumination to some buildings. Towers, gates, and, most importantly, your Town Hall will have torches placed on top, making nights in your town brighter than ever. You can see what it will look like in the video!

Not only that, but it will also be easier to discern whether a house is affected by a fountain’s effect (the one that makes houses fit more citizens). Such houses will look a bit different: the addition of a city fountain will let residents grow some ornamental trees around their homes (no, you can’t cut those) and add canopies for personal comfort.

Pupultas!

Deep Update is coming along well, even though we still need more time to put together an update this big. Meanwhile, we’ve put additional efforts into improving the game’s performance. With this totally planned update, you should notice much better RAM utilisation (especially during long play sessions).

Additionally, it fixes a few rare crash cases some players may have experienced. As such, you can spend even more time fighting against unfavourable odds! Enjoy the update — and our video that demonstrates the difference!

Bug Fixes

• As a part of RAM utilisation improvement, a number of related crash cases have been resolved. If you experienced crashes before the update, please check if the update fixed them for you.

Pupultas!

March is ending, which means it’s time to explore a new map created by players! Today we look at Trio of Discord by SuGaRtOxA and Golden Mantis.

Trio of Discord is a medium-sized map where you need to defend from seven attacking waves. The last one comes on day 25, which also makes all enemies on the map join it. That includes Ozzie and Emperor Crab, so make sure to come after them before they come after you!

Luckily, you have plenty of resources to quickly boost your economy and level one buildings can also be skipped, as you have the Town Hall II right from the start. There’s a lot of iron veins around the castle, tons of infinite stone sources and berry bushes are everywhere to keep your citizens well-fed and happy.

Our second update of March is already available! Now you can download three new love-themed challenges. Lead a rescue operation as Shankhar to save the love of her life or find yourself between masses of extremely aggressive crabs in the middle of their mating season — in any case, you’ll have to employ all your skills to survive emotional storms of the new missions.
