Hello dear Desktop Fishing community,

you left us a lot of feedback under the last update - thank you for that, we really appreciate it!

Also over the past months, we’ve repeatedly received feedback about the achievements being extremely hard to obtain. We want to address that now.

We completely understand that the chances for the final achievements were too harsh. When we last adjusted them, we still held on to the idea of “this should be super grindy so it feels prestigious to catch the rarest fish.” What we underestimated, however, is that many players are still playing Desktop Fishing simply to complete the achievements and then move on - which is totally fair.

So, long story short:

The last two achievements are now achievable in around 200 hours on average. Of course, depending on luck, it may take a bit less or more. The catch X Amount of fish achievements also have been nerfed.

Idle Mode Changes

We’ve also made a change that will likely be especially interesting for new players:

• You can now access the full idle mode (incuding not stopping on new fish) from the very beginning

• There is no rank requirement anymore

These mechanics were originally designed to extend Desktop Fishing over time with more content and a broader variety of fish and features. Unfortunately, continuing that approach is no longer possible for us.

We know this update comes late. The past six months have been quite turbulent for us. We released our second game, Frog Holm, which was on a completely different scale compared to Desktop Fishing.

If you’re interested, feel free to check out Frog Holm - it’s currently on sale until April 2nd and even cheaper if you already own Desktop Fishing.

Always on Top Toggle + Frog Holm Joins Steam!

Hello dear Desktop Fishing Community!

We’ve just released a long-awaited fix: you can now toggle Always on Top on and off in the settings. Yes, the frog is beautiful — but we understand that you might not want to see it ALL the time.

On top of that, we’re excited to announce that our second game, Frog Holm, is now available on Steam! It’s a cozy narrative adventure where you inherit a small pub on a Scandinavian island. We’d love for you to join us on another froggy journey.

And who knows… you might even uncover hints about a mysterious illness affecting the local fish.

Dear Desktop Fishing community,

for now, this will be the last Desktop Fishing update. Well - to be honest, it is not really an update.

If you want a detailed report on the state of the game, please visit our Discord. You will find everything you need to know there - here is just the short version:

Right now, we are not able to keep adding new content to Desktop Fishing because we cannot financially sustain it (which is really sad for us).

Our new game Frog Holm is entering Steam Next Fest starting today.

Starting today, you can get a special item in Desktop Fishing if you add our new game to your wishlist. Well, to be completely honest, we are not actually checking whether you really add it - but it would make us incredibly happy and would help us a lot as a studio to build a successful foundation. Just click the banner that pops up when you start the game.

We have some news for you!

We are releasing a small update on December 18th with a new seasonal shop that will be active until January 18th next year!

With this update you will be able to dress your frog according to the colder and festive season.

Welcome the Spooky Season with the HALLOWEEN UPDATE!

What's new:

• A seasonal shop filled with brand-new spooky clothes for your desktop frog buddy!

• By popular demand, we're adding automated chest opening for players that have reached the highest rank and are looking for a full-on AFK experience to complete their fish collection!

• More realistic goals for some of the achievements.

Have a dark, cold September and keep on fishing!

After receiving a lot of clear feedback, we realized that our original “calculations” for the Steam achievements were honestly complete nonsense. To reach the 100k fish achievement, you would’ve had to play the game 125 days straight, 24/7.

We love Desktop Fishing, but we definitely don’t want to put you through that. That said, the new achievement requirements are still no walk in the park. We hope you understand our decision, our goal is to make unlocking the achievements fun.

New seasonal shop items on Sept, 29th!

We have some news for you!

We are releasing a little cosmetics update on September 29th, so you can dress you frog according to the spooky Halloween season 🎃

AFK Fishing

• You can now choose on which rarity level or special catch type your frog stops fishing. You can find this option in the settings. Every time you catch a special variant of a fish for the first time, it's marked as new on the banner.

Flipping, Scaling And Moving The Frog

• This feature was one of the most requested and we are happy to announce that it will be part of this update! We also changed the way you can move the frog around your screen: You can now drag and drop the frog so you do not need to open the settings to quickly move the frog out of the way.

Seasonal Shop

• The shop now contains a new, time limited tab with unique seasonal items! These seasonal items will be available in the shop over a certain timespan and they will return annually. For now, we created 6 new items (with different color variants) which will be available in the shop for a month from July 24th.

Daily Quests

• The daily quests now update properly without having to close the game on a new day. We know that a lot of people start playing our game in the evening so in order to give you all more time to complete your daily quests, they will not refresh at midnight but at 6 in the morning instead. (same goes for the shop refresh)

Bug fixes

• Fixed deleting saved data not always working properly

• Fixed the money spent achievement stat being reset for some users. If this happened to you, your money spent will be restored!

More AFK Fishing Options

In the settings, you can now choose at which rarity level or special catch type your frog will stop fishing and notify you. This lets you focus on rare or unique catches without missing a bite.

Flip, Scale, and Move the Frog

Based on your top requests, we’ve added:

• Flip: Mirror your frog horizontally.

• Scale: Adjust the frog’s size to your preference.

• Drag & Drop: Simply click and drag the frog to a new position—no need to open the settings menu.

Seasonal Shop

The in‑game shop now features a time‑limited seasonal tab with exclusive summer items. Six new designs, each in multiple color variants, are available until August 13 and will return annually starting in 2026.

Revised Daily Quests

Daily quests now refresh at 6 AM instead of midnight. This change ensures evening and late‑night players have ample time to complete their daily challenges.

• Fixed the issue where the save data would sometimes be deleted for some players

Improved Twitch connection

We fixed connection errors and introduced clear debug messages next to the connection button in the settings to help pinpoint any issues. In Your Twitch Settings under Connections if you scroll all the way down you can find other connections, where desktop fishing should be listed if connected successfully.

New hotkeys to reposition the frog

This hopefully helps those whose frog is off screen. While the game is the active window (click on game icon in task bar if you do not see the frog) alternate fast between g and either t (move up), f (move left), h (move right), b (move down) keys.

Automatic backup save files

These files are created hourly and located at \\Users\\ yourusername \\AppData\\LocalLow\\Ostend Games\\Desktop Fishing\\Backups. If you do not see the AppData folder, please enable "Show Hidden Items" in your View Settings.

Aquarium button

The aquarium button on the map now reliably opens the correct aquarium based on the selected location. Thank you for your continued support in making Desktop Fishing a great experience for everyone. We are truly grateful for this awesome community!
