Hi everyone!
If you've been following our projects other than Desktop Defender you might be aware that we're working on a followup to it called Desktop Detective!
Well... I'm super excited to announce that Desktop Detective will be releasing on Steam on the 19th of August! Below is how much content the game will release with:
111 achievements
100 levels
233 unique pieces of gear
14 detectives
9 locations
16 unique tools
A deep Rebirth system after reaching level 100
English, French, German, Spanish, Czech, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portugese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese localisations
And way more!
Overall, we expect it to take about 150 - 200 hours to get to level 100, but the Rebirth system after that can extend playtime into the thousands of hours!
We're also continuing to work hard on the upcoming Harmony Update for Desktop Defender, you can read more about it here: !
Also, if you're looking forward to playing the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you wishlisted it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game!
I'm super looking forward to Desktop Detective's release!- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
About 2 weeks ago we released the huge Forge Update, and I'm happy to announce that we're working on the next one... The Harmony Update!
This update will serve mainly to add extra bells & whistles to the game, some of these include:
Discord rich presence support
Mac support
Friend leaderboards for your maximum wave (might do a global one, but we'd need to figure out how to prevent cheating without sacrificing modding support)
More loot (both forged and non-forged)
More skins
More achievements
And more QOL features!
We'd love to hear what features you'd like to be added to Desktop Defender in this update, so please post your suggestions under this post, or join the game's Discord!
We also might add more achievements not only to the game itself, but to the Steam achievement system. We're still not sure, but would really appreciate it if you could fill out this survey so that we can get a better idea for what people want: https://forms.gle/mJ6MJ21RxMTc1h2YA.
Another thing I wanted to mention is that we recently released the free demo to another corner idle game, Desktop Detective.
If you're liking what you see in this update, Desktop Detective has lots of similar systems that make it super synergistic. I would really appreciate it if you could try it out! Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thanks again for playing Desktop Defender, and I hope you enjoy playing the new upcoming content!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
A few days we released the Forge Update, and I'm happy to announce that we've got even more coming out on this stacked week! Namely... The free demo for our next corner idle game is OUT NOW!
It's called Desktop Detective, and we really worked hard to not only really level up the visuals, but also to make the gameplay even more strategic!
The game will come out super soon, so the demo's the perfect opportunity to see what it's like before then. It's got:
About 10-15 hours of base gameplay, but you can effectively play infinitely if you chase highscores and perfect builds
Saves carry to the full game
10 levels, can go up to 13 levels if you do the demo quests
When it comes out, owners of Desktop Defender will also get a discount (just like we did with our other game, Card Corner), so let me know what you think of the demo if you get a chance to try it out!
We'll also be running a survey next week about the next update for Desktop Defender, so keep an eye out for that!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thanks again for reading this post, and I hope you keep on enjoying Desktop Defender's Forge Update, and the just-released Desktop Detective Demo!

Hi everyone!
I'm happy to announce that Desktop Defender's biggest update yet has JUST RELEASED! The Forge Update has a crazy amount of stuff, and this post will go over all of it!
Also, we JUST released a brand new bullet heaven called Wanted Shadows: Unchained, and you can get it discounted if you already own Desktop Defender! Despite having tons of hours of gameplay, it only costs $2.80 with the bundle!
Anyways, let's get right to it!
After Rebirthing for the first time, you now unlock Forging. Clicking on this menu will allow you to combine two pieces of loot on the floor to make an even stronger piece of loot if they're part of a crafting recipe.
Crafted loot has a new unique Ω tier, and they're all stronger than the current maximum ∞ tier! They also use a mix of lower and higher tier loot to be crafted, so all sorts of loot is useful now even if you're far into the game!
This system (and tons of this update) is actually based on the crafting system in our other idle corner game, Card Corner! So if you like what you see, make sure to check that game out. You can even get a discount if you already own Desktop Defender!
Speaking of loot, we've added 56 new ones! That means that we've gone from 108 -> 164 loot types... That's a crazy 52% increase! Some of these are in E - A tiers, but there are 4 new ones in S tier, 8 in ∞, and 29 in the new Ω tier!
Because lower tier loot can also be now used to craft Ω loot, we've rebalanced the loot rarity drop table to make it possible for any rarity to show up at any level, while still not feeling frustrated that most loot is unusable!
On top of that, we've taken even more inspiration from ourselves in Card Corner, and added Limited and Unique loot. Some of the new loot have this label, and they limit how much you can equip, but are really powerful for their rarity.
We've wanted to add a way to visualise all loot in the game for a while, and this update was the perfect opportunity to add it! The compendium is a menu that allows you to not only check all of the information about all of the loot you've ever found, but it also displays crafting recipes for Ω loot!
Because this is a new feature and the game wasn't keeping track of your discovered loot previously, loot that is not in your inventory currently will have to be rediscovered. Fortunately, even just checking loot that spawns on the ground automatically registers it to the compendium, so it should fill up pretty quickly!
Being able to swap between loot loadouts is something that rebirth grinders have been asking for a while... And I'm happy to let you know that the feature is now in the Forge Update! You get 5 loadouts, unlocked through Rebirthing, and it makes testing different builds way easier.
Because we've added tons more content, but we didn't want to force you to Rebirth a ton to unlock it all, some Rebirth levels now have multiple bonuses! Notably, you now unlock Forging after rebirthing just once, and there are a few more loot loadout bonuses early on as well.
We've also added 2 whole new rebirth bonuses with the highest one going up to 100 rebirths!
I believe the current record for max wave climbing is wave 430, but with these new changes the ceiling should be lifted by quite a bit! If you want to share your progress, make sure to join the Discord server!
Apart from adding rebirth bonuses, we've also added 15 more base levels, bringing the total up to 215. These are not super strong... Except for the final one, which I'll be explaining in the next section!
I personally feel that the level bonuses have capped out at this point, with Rebirth bonuses playing a more important role by the time you reach this point in the game. Because of this, I'm leaning towards not adding more in future updates. I'd love to hear your thoughts though, on whether you'd like to see more or not!
At level 215, you'll now unlock a new bonus that allows you to have automatic wave checkpoints! Previously, the maximum checkpoint was at wave 121, which made it quite slow to climb waves after a certain point (especially when you're going for the world record, which is about wave 430). Now, every 10 waves sets an automatic checkpoint with the level 215 bonus, so the only limit to your progression is the power of your build!
And that's it for this update! I really hope you enjoy it, and I would love to get some feedback on what you'd like to see in the next big update as well!
If you like bullet heaven games (which Desktop Defender is kind of, just in an idle format), then I also think Wanted Shadows: Unchained will be right up your alley!
Also as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thanks again for playing Desktop Defender, and I hope you enjoy playing the new content!

Hi everyone!
2 weeks ago we pushed the much-awaited Forge update to the beta branch, and I'm happy to announce that it will be released to everyone TOMORROW!
It will go live at 19:00 CEST / 10:00 PDT, so I hope you all enjoy it! If you want to read what the update contains, the last post below covers much of it.
As well, we're releasing a BRAND NEW game at the same exact time, called Wanted Shadows: Unchained.
It's an experimental fast-paced bullet heaven, and will only cost $3.49 or equivalent (plus a launch discount, and an even steeper discount if you already own Desktop Defender)!
If you want to help support the development of both Desktop Defender and all of our future games, this is a great way to do so! Make sure to wishlist the game!
That's it for this update, and thanks again for sticking around!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
I'm happy to announce that the long-awaited Forge Update is out now in the Beta branch! It'll likely stay there for a week or two for testing (as it's a big one), and then make it's way to the normal branch.
To access the beta branch, do the following:
Right click on Desktop Defender in your Steam Library
Click Properties and then Betas
Click beta
Anyways, let me explain the standout changes!
After Rebirthing for the first time, you now unlock Forging. Clicking on this menu will allow you to combine two pieces of loot on the floor to make an even stronger piece of loot if they're part of a crafting recipe.

And that's it for the Forge Update's new additions! We'll of course be fixing/balancing while it's in the beta branch, and as mentioned before, probably push it out to the main branch in 1 or 2 weeks.

Hi everyone!
Last time I posted a month ago it was to release Desktop Defender's latest update, now I'm happy to announce our next game - Desktop Detective! (Join the Discord) It's a corner idle game just like Desktop Defender, but you play as a detective that solves cases by finding clues! Make sure to wishlist it if you like the sound of it!
Regarding Desktop Defender's next update, I can confirm that it will be coming out NEXT MONTH! If you're unfamiliar with what it will contain, it's all about crafting and you can read about it below.I hope you all keep on enjoying Desktop Defender, and I hope you enjoy Desktop Detective as well!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!

Hi everyone!
Yesterday we released the Rebalanced update and it looks like you're all really enjoying it! If you haven't read the update covering what it contains, read it below.
We've adjusted some small things to make the balance even better, read the patch notes below.
Changed the loot stat contribution text to always show "previous stat -> new stat", even in the equipped view, whereas before it was "new stat -> previous stat".
Fixed a bug where the stat values for the Firm Grip and Shadow Strike loot were mixed up.
Wizardry loot % Damage Reduction: -70% -> -40%.
Dragonborn loot % Damage Reduction: -55% -> -40%.
Added the "Precise Collisions" setting. In the previous update, we made projectiles interpolate to have greater accuracy, but this came at the cost of worsened performance on lower-end devices. By default this setting is off, but if you turn it on your high-speed projectiles will no longer skip over enemies.
Fixed a bug that caused loot with higher than 100% stat effects to display incorrectly in the loot view.
Fixed a bug that caused the achievement for unlocking all weapons to not take into account the 2 newly added weapons in the Critical Update.
Fixed a bug where the mastery achievements for the 2 newly added weapons in the Critical Update didn't display their text properly in some languages.
As always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thanks again, and keep on enjoying Desktop Defender!

Hi everyone!
Yesterday I made a post explaining how the first part of the upcoming Forge Update was on the beta branch... Well, originally that update was only going to make its way to the main branch in April together with the full content additions but I've changed my mind and it's LIVE NOW FOR EVERYONE!
Players who tested it were very happy with the new balance changes, and the game was stable so I thought there was no point in withholding the update!
Because of that, this update is now considered a separate one, and is called the REBALANCED UPDATE!
The Rebalanced Update does the following:
⚔️% Damage Loot is completely reworked! No longer does it increase damage from a percentage of your base weapon stat, but rather the whole damage stat as a whole. This means that % damage loot is no longer super underpowered in the early game, but it remains about just as powerful in the late game. Some of the multipliers for loot affecting this stat has been reduced a bit, but because it multiplies from a higher base value, it should remain about just as strong in the late game as it is currently.
🔫Fire rate is no longer a percentage, but rather calculated as "shots per second", and upgraded as such. The fire rate limit as also been increased from 10 -> 15 shots per second (and 100 -> 150 for Flamethrower and Electromagnetism)! This means that no longer will you have a loot with, for instance, a 15% increase in fire rate that doubles your shots per second. This stat is much clearer now.
❤️HP Is no longer useless! We've completely rebalanced it and you can now take multiple hits before dying if you invest in it properly. The Forge Update will also contain more loot that will let you have an HP-centric build.
🎯Aim Cone descriptions have been majorly reworked, and now display as a percentage with the stat name "Accuracy".
⚡Critical hit multipliers through loot are now multiplicative instead of additive.
💀Because various mechanics have been buffed across the board, the Rebirth wave requirement has been adjusted.
⚫Projectiles now interpolate, which means that collisions are perfectly accurate even when you have insane projectile speeds.
💡Fixed a bunch of bugs such as the issue that caused the level menu to show 30 levels further than the one you were currently on when you opened it.
🎒You can now drop loot even before you've rebirthed. The corresponding rebirth bonus is now a money multiplier, and will be changed to the Forging unlock once the Forge Update releases.
❓And way more!
I'd love to hear your feedback, so let me know what you think of the update either on Discord or right here on Steam in the comments of this posts or in the discussion forums! The Forge Update is still scheduled to release in April, and I think you all will really enjoy it since it will add tons of great mechanics to Desktop Defender :)
I also wanted to let you know that last week we released a companion game to Desktop Defender called Card Corner! If you like the sound of Balatro X Desktop Defender, then the game is for you and you'll get a discount with the bundle below if you already own Desktop Defender!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thanks again, and keep on enjoying Desktop Defender!- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
If you've read our previous post, you'll know that we're hard at work on the Forge Update. If you haven't already, you can read it below!
Well, I'm happy to announce that the first part of the Forge Update is out on the Beta branch RIGHT NOW!
It doesn't contain any of the new content, but it has a complete rebalancing of the game. Don't worry though, basically nothing as been nerfed, most things are about as powerful as before with some consistency fixes, and some things are buffed.
To access the beta branch, do the following:Right click on Desktop Defender in your Steam Library
Click Properties and then Betas
Click beta
Anyways, below are the standout changes!
⚔️% Damage Loot is completely reworked! No longer does it increase damage from a percentage of your base weapon stat, but rather the whole damage stat as a whole. ❓And way more!
All of this is of course subject to change, hence why it's on the beta branch! So, if there's anything you like or dislike about these changes let us know on the game's Discord Channel!
As I mentioned in the previous update, the full Forge Update with all of the content plus the balance rework seen in this update will release in late April or early May. I hope that you'll all enjoy it!
I also wanted to let you know that last week we released a companion game to Desktop Defender called Card Corner! If you like the sound of Balatro X Desktop Defender, then the game is for you and you'll get a discount with the bundle below if you already own Desktop Defender!

Thanks again, and keep on enjoying Desktop Defender!- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
It's only been 3 days since the Critical Update launched, but I'm happy to announce the new one already? It's called the Forge Update!
But before I start explaining the update, I wanted to let you know that Card Corner, our new idle game, just released and is on launch discount! If you own Desktop Defender you get a further 10% discount as well!
The forge update revolves around loot, and the new namesake feature - Forging. It will include:
New loot
New loot modifiers like Unique loot (can only equip 1) and Limited loot (can only equip a maximum amount of a given type)
The new Forging mechanic, which will allow you to combine two pieces of loot into a new, even stronger one
Loot loadouts
New level bonuses
New rebirth bonuses
And more!
The reason for making this post is that we're seeking feedback to make the update even better. If you want to help out, we've made a survey that you can fill here! It should only take 2-3 minutes.
Survey
We're planning on releasing the update around late April or early May, so it's not too far away!
I'm super excited to show you all the new stuff we've been working on, and I hope you all enjoy playing more Desktop Defender!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thank you so much for reading my post, and make sure to update Desktop Defender, and get Card Corner!
Lots of the stuff that we're releasing in this new update (e.g. the forging and the special loot modifiers) were tested first in Card Corner! So if you like the sound of these mechanics, I think you'll like Card Corner too :)
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
I'm so happy to announce that Desktop Defender's Critical Update is OUT NOW!
It has so much stuff and has improved the game in so many ways, I can't wait for you all to try it!
On top of that, Desktop Defender is currently 30% off because Steam has featured us as today's Daily Deal! If you haven't gotten the game already, now's the perfect time, and doubly so because we actually just released another game today as well!
Card Corner is our followup to Desktop Defender, and it's an idle poker game that sits in the corner of your screen while you do other things. Lots of the improvements that we brought to Desktop Defender in this update actually come from Card Corner's codebase, so if you like what you see I really recommend you give it a try!
You can even get it on discount if you already own Desktop Defender, so check out the bundle link for that below!
(P.S. You also get a free skin in Card Corner if you own Desktop Defender, and a free skin in Desktop Defender if you own Card Corner!)
Anyways, let's get to the patch notes, you can read them below!
The max level has increased from 150 -> 200, with each level having a new level bonus
When you reach level 200, each level grants you +1% damage
3 new loot slots added through level bonuses
Added the Multiplying Blast weapon
Added the Critical Blast weapon
Added critical hits, which have a chance of triggering and dealing more damage
Added the Crit Chance stat, which affects your likelihood of landing a critical hit
Added the Crit Multiplier stat, which affects how much damage your critical hits do
Added 5 new pieces of loot
Made it such that you can see your current stat value for any of the stats, making it easier to see how much your investments are affecting your build
Made it such that you can see how much any piece of loot affects the stats it changes when in your inventory, e.g. loot that affects damage will show you how much damage contribution it adds to your build
Made it such that you can see how much any piece of loot will change your stats when you pick it up
Loot no longer disappears from your inventory when you Rebirth. Instead, they will remain there inactive until you have enough loot slots again for them to be active
Added 3 new skins
Added 10 new achievements (in-game only)
Added a tip screen in the bottom right expandable menu, which explains many of the game's mechanics (e.g. the slightly complex way that % damage loot is calculated)
A few days ago I also made a post with pictures showing some more of the new features, so you can read that below if you want as well (though playing it is of course the best way to experience it)!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Thank you so much for reading my post, and make sure to update Desktop Defender, and get Card Corner!
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
I'm super happy to announce that Desktop Defender's Critical Update releases in 4 days on March 9th! I wanted to give you all a little sneak peak about what the update contains, so that's what this post is for!
Before I start though, we're also releasing a whole new idle game called Card Corner on March 9th! If you own Desktop Defender, you'll get a discount on the game.
They're also both compatible so you can snap their windows to each other for ultimate offscreen progression!
The free demo is available now, and the save carries on to the full game!
Anyways, that's enough about Card Corner, let's get going with Desktop Defender's Critical Update 😎
The main new addition in this update, and its namesake, is the addition of the Critical Chance and Critical Multiplier stats!
Now, you'll be able to invest in the Critical Chance stat to increase how often you get damage-increasing critical hits, and in Critical Multiplier in order to boost how much those do!
This is a huge change both for early and late game, and it has greatly increased the number of builds the game has.
Another thing we've added is greater clarity to how much upgrading stats affects them. This one was super requested. All stats will have their values and units displayed, so now you can strategise more precisely!
The stat viewing has also been applied to loot! So now you can see exactly how your loadout changes affect your build, and that applies both to when checking out your equipped loot, and when deciding on whether to pick up a new one or not.
There has also been tons of new loot added, as well as 3 new loot slots!
Finally, loot no longer disappears from your inventory when you Rebirth, they stay so you won't need to drop everything on the floor anymore (I know many will be happy about this one)!
I know that some of Desktop Defender's mechanics can be a bit obtuse, and that's why we added a new tips menu! Now, you can read about basically anything you'd like to know that might be a bit confusing otherwise! We originally added this to Card Corner, but it was too useful not to backport into Desktop Defender too!
We're also adding 2 new weapons to the game, but I will save these for the release of the update... Can't spoil everything here ;)
Finally, the game is getting an increase in how many levels it has! Previously, the game had 150 levels, and now it's going to have 200! Most of the level bonuses are quite simple, but there are some big ones like the aforementioned extra loot slots, and there's also one big new bonus at level 200 - level damage bonuses.
Now, when you reach level 200, each level will give you +1% damage, so leveling up is no longer useless after you get all the bonuses!
I hope you all enjoyed reading what we've been up to since the skin update last month, I'm super excited to see you all try it :)
You'll notice that we've increased both the cadence and size of our updates, and that's because we've been able to backport lots of the cool features of the new projects we've been working on (e.g. the tips/stat info systems in Card Corner).
If you wanna support us in further updating Desktop Defender, then either reviewing Desktop Defender or wishlisting Card Corner are the best things you can do! :)
Anyways, that's it for this update, but thank you so much for reading! See you soon on March 9th, the release date of both Desktop Defender's Critical Update, and Card Corner!
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
About a week ago we announced our next idle corner game, Card Corner, and I'm happy to announce that its free Steam demo is a part of Next Fest!
If you wanna give it a try, click on the link below and give it a wishlist!
I also wanted to write this update to let you all know that both Card Corner and the new Critical Update will be releasing on March 9th! If you want to read more about the planned update, the post below has you covered.
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this post, and the next one will be for when the Critical Update is out for you all to play! Hope you enjoy!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
Today's post is a big one, because not only are we releasing the Skin Update, but also announcing A WHOLE NEW GAME, Card Corner! (P.S. The free demo is out right now!)
The Skin Update is out right now, and if you want to read what it adds to the game, read the post below! You'll see that we have another upcoming update very soon, and later in this post I'll reveal the release date!
We'll also of course be making more updates beyond these ones, and I can't wait to keep on supporting Desktop Defender!
Anyways, many of you probably want to learn more about Card Corner, our latest idle game that takes everything we learned while developing and supporting Desktop Defender, and applies it to a poker setting!
If you enjoyed Desktop Defender, Card Corner will also be right up your alley. It's an idle poker deckbuilder that lives quietly in the corner of your screen while you work, browse, or do whatever else you're doing!
There's a free demo available on Steam right now, give it a shot and let me know what you think! In fact, it's also compatible with Desktop Defender so you can snap the windows to each other, and play both games simultaneously! You'll also get a free skin in Desktop Defender if you've played the Card Corner demo!
Join the Card Corner Discord here!
Anyways, I'm sure you also want to read the exact patch notes for Desktop Defender's Skin Update, and you can read them below!
Added the new skin system - unlocking certain number of achievements allows you to unlock visual skins.
Added 14 new skins (and even more if you own more of our games as tie-in bonuses).
Added 5 new achievements, without Steam integration per community feedback.
Improved the game's visuals when scaling the game's window up and down from the base resolution.
Fixed a bug that caused certain infinity-ranked loot to be way rarer than intended.
I really hope that you enjoy both Desktop Defender's Skin Update, and Card Corner's free demo! What's even more exciting is that Card Corner will be releasing on the 9th of March, and Desktop Defender's Critical Update will be releasing on the same day!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this post and see you very soon!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
In our last post we announced both the Critical Update, as well as the Skin Update, and I let you know that we'd be announcing the release date for the latter very soon... Well, I'm happy to announce that the Skin Update is releasing this Monday, the 16th of February!
If you want to check what it contains, click on the link below!
Also, we'll be announcing something SUPER important on the 16th of February as well, so keep an eye out for that... You can join our Discord to stay up to date!
On a separate note, in the last post we announced that the game would be receiving more achievements to work in tandem with the new skin system, and while we carried out a survey to make sure that you all wanted this, we received some feedback on our previous post that went against this.
Because of this, I wanted to ask - if you're one of the players who would like achievements to be added, would you be alright with them only being added to the game itself, and not Steam?
So in practice, the achievements would appear in game as they do right now, but no more would be added to the Steam backend, so if you 100%d the game prior to the upcoming updates it still shows as such. Let me know what you think!
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this post, and the next one will be for when the special announcement and the release of the Skin Update! Hope you enjoy!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
It's been a bit over 2 weeks since the big Rebirth Update, and I'm excited to announce that we have 2 new updates coming VERY SOON to Desktop Defender!
But before I start explaining the updates, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it! It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
The first update is called the Skin Update, and will come out around mid-late February. It adds a new skin system to change your defender's appearance, QOL changes and bug fixes, as well as a few new achievements.
The update will feature 14 skins, and you unlock them through completing more achievements. To coincide with the update, we've also added 5 more!
The achievements are not overly complex since this is a smaller update, but they set up the groundwork for the new update. Also, I wanted to show you all my new favourite skin, which is this lil' guy :)
Speaking of the new update after the Skin Update, it'll be a big one and it's called the Critical Update.
The Critical Update will release in March, and will feature:
2 new upgradeable stats, critical hit chance and critical hit multiplier.
2 new weapons that synergise with the new stats.
More loot.
New levels! You will be able to level up to level 200.
New QOL changes such as being able to see your stat values (e.g. damage per hit, fire rate, etc.)
New achievements for the new content.
I'm super excited to show you all what we've been working on, and I hope you all enjoy playing more Desktop Defender! The Critical Update will also release with a HUGE new announcement, but you'll have to wait until later this month to find out what it is ;)
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this post, and the next one will be for when the Skin Update is out for you all to play! Hope you enjoy!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
It's now been a few days since Desktop Defender's first big content update, the Rebirth Update. Now that that's released, we're preparing for the next one!
I've made a form to help with this, and I would really appreciate it if you could fill it out, it should only take 1 minute!
Here it is: https://forms.gle/ZnGYALyJrcpZpuJH6
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
(and by the way, Desktop Defender is on sale for another 9 days, get it while you can!)
Anyways, that's it for this post, and I can't wait for you all to play the next update when it's ready!
- Conrad, Lead DeveloperHi everyone!
3 days ago I let you all know that the Rebirth Update went into testing in the beta branch... And I'm happy to announce that it is now AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE! The game is also on a 20% discount, so if you haven't gotten the game yet or you want to recommend it to a friend, now's the perfect time!
What does the Rebirth Update change? Well, quite a few things.
But before I start explaining the changes, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it! It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Rebirthing now has a proper progression system, like levels do! At the moment, there are 14 unlocks across 100 Rebirths, but we may expand this in future updates! The bonuses that this new system provides range from big stat increases, to unlocking whole new mechanics like the new speed-up and stash system!
Also, Rebirthing can no longer be done just by getting to level 150, but you also need to reach a certain wave depending on what Rebirth you're on. But don't worry! Reaching higher Rebirths is way more manageable than before now, thanks to all the bonuses you'll be getting along the way.
You might be wondering, if you have previously Rebirthed, how does your progress carry over to the new system?
Well, since each Rebirth has an associated wave you must complete, the game will check your highest achieved wave in the current version and place you at the corresponding Rebirth!
If you don't want to lower your Rebirth count though, you can still keep your current one. When you open the game after updating, a popup will appear explaining the new system as well as letting you decide whether you want to match your Rebirth to what is recommended or not. The exact changes will also be displayed in this UI!
The first bonus you'll get while progressing through the Rebirths is the ability to use the speed-up button. You'll start off being able to multiply your game speed by 1.25x times, but as you progress more, you can unlock up to 2x game speed!
In a previous post where I explained my plans for this Rebirth update, I mentioned how I was planning to add a stash system. Well, I did, but it's slightly changed from how I explained it back then!
Now, you'll unlock the ability to drop loot on the ground at Rebirth 2. This allows you to swap around what loot you want to have active at any given time, but it will be at the cost of limiting how much new loot you can get as there's a maximum loot amount that can be on the floor at any given time. As you progress through the Rebirths, you'll also increase how much loot can be on the floor!
During testing, this gave the new system a neat risk, reward, and progression feel. I hope you all enjoy it!
Beyond this, I've also added TONS of new loot slots that are unlocked through the Rebirth progression. This will let you get past those super high waves that were previously impossible (or super tedious).
I also previously planned to add 2 extra loot rarity tiers, but in the end, they felt kind of forced. Instead, I decided to still add more loot, but at the Infinity tier! They are listed below:
Failed Experiment | +15 Shot Damage
Force | +120% Projectile Size, -50% Projectile Speed
Moon Health | +500 Max HP
Pushing Flow | +150% Knockback, -50% Projectile Damage
Beyond these changes, we've also made some smaller ones! This is both since the last update to the main branch, and since we put up this update into the beta branch.
Fixed bug that caused the Rebirth Update popup to display incorrectly for some players
Fixed bug that caused the "start with all weapons unlocked" Rebirth bonus to not properly apply in some cases
Improved the save backup system in case your PC forcibly gets shutdown due to power failure or other reasons mid-save
Updated some incorrect/awkward translations
Adjusted the Rebirth XP multiplier for better balance
Made it such that the loot that is able to be kept on the ground starts at 8 pieces of loot, and it gets upgraded as you progress through Rebirths. This means that loot on the ground is no longer tied to your loot slots.
Made it such that you can drop loot even if you have maxed out your on-floor loot capacity, but new loot will not spawn if you're over your limit
Small performance improvements on the CPU side
I hope you all like what I've been working on during the past month, and I'm super excited to let you all get your hands on the update! Let me know if you have any feedback as well :)
Also, as always, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this post, and the next one will be for when the Rebirth update is out for you all to try out! Hope you enjoy!

Hi everyone!
It's been a while since the last update, but I'm happy to announce that the Rebirth update we announced about a month ago is OUT NOW in the beta branch!
What that means is that while it's not available by default in the game, you can opt-in to play it before it goes out to everyone.
Here's how you can play the update right now:
Launch Steam and go to your game library where all your installed games are listed.
Find Desktop Defender in your library.
Right-click on Desktop Defender and select "Properties" in the dropdown menu
In the "Properties" window, click on the "Betas" tab on the left.
You'll see a dropdown menu next to "Beta Participation". Click on it, and select "beta - Early builds".
Close the window, the game should be updating
That's it!
The reason we're doing it this way is to test both for bugs and the new features' designs, so if you find anything, please report it on Discord!
In terms of what's new in the update, I made a post when we announced the update. Read it to get up to speed!
I also wanted to apologise to you all for the update taking so long to release! It was really close to being done when the previous post was published, but because of the holiday period localisation took a bit longer than usual. This should be a one-time thing though and future updates should come way faster! In fact, the next one is already underway 👀
I would also love to hear you suggestions for extra content for the game! Do you want more weapons? More loot? Different systems? Leave them here! I can't respond to all the comments, but I definitely read them all :)
Lastly, we're expanding the team! Until now, most of Desktop Defender has been a solo endeavour. Because I want to keep on updating the game at a good cadence, and I also have tons of ideas for new idle games, expanding the team is the way to go! I've made a post on Work With Indies, so if you want to work with us, definitely apply!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, that's it for this update, and make sure to join the game's Discord to share any feedback you have about the new changes! The update on the beta branch is to test it out both in design and for bugs before it goes out to everyone, so bug reports and feedback are super appreciated!
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's been about 2 weeks since my last post here, and weirdly enough it feels like much longer than that! Maybe it's because I spent 2 weeks doing daily updates...
Either way, I'm happy to announce that in the next few days, the Rebirth content update will be released! First, we'll be putting it up on the Steam beta branch to make sure that there are no super game-breaking bugs, but a few days later it should make its way to the main branch!
In terms of what this update has, there are 3 main pillars
Rebirth progression
Speed-up button
Loot Stash & Loot Additions
Rebirthing now has a proper progression system, like levels do! At the moment, there are 14 unlocks across 100 Rebirths, but we may expand this in future updates! Hi everyone!
It's been a week since the last update, and I've been hard at work at finishing up the big Rebirth content update that will be coming out in December!
However, I wanted to write this update because Steam just opened their Steam Award Nominations! If you want to nominate the game for Steam awards, click on the link below, then right under the trailer you can click on "Nominate Your Favourites For The Steam Awards"!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
After you go to that page, it should allow you to nominate not only Desktop Defender, but all the other games that you've enjoyed this year for several categories!
Thanks again for playing and enjoying Desktop Defender, and I'm super excited to show you all what I've been working on with the next update!

Hi everyone!
Today is the 14th day of daily patches, and it's going to be the last one that I do on a daily cadence! Of course, there are still many patches left in Desktop Defender's life, but in order to focus all of my attention on the big Rebirth Content Update, I've decided to stop doing them daily at this 2 week milestone. I hope you all enjoyed this initiative, it was super enjoyable for me as a developer because I was able to interact so much with all of you, and the game got so much better so quickly thanks to you all :)
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!
Added an option that allows you to display numbers in scientific notation (e.g. 1.2E6 instead of 1.2M for 1,200,000)
Increased Explosion damage by 25%
Reduced projectile lifetime of Sniper, Star, and Ballista to improve performance
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's day 13 of daily patches, and this one's focused on quality of life, performance improvements, and bug fixes!
Tomorrow will mark day 14 of daily updates, and I'm going to stop doing these after tomorrow so that I can properly focus on the next big content patch! Read more about it here.
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!
Fixed some typos in text descriptions
Reduced the fade duration of projectiles at the end of their lifetime to reduce confusion regarding hitboxes
Fixed error that made the "Jupiter" loot have the same icon as the "Steady Hand" loot
Fixed bug that made it such that if you were holding down the mouse button on an upgrade to buy multiple of them, it would make all of your projectiles only do 1 damage until you let go
Improved performance on the "Heart" weapon by optimising the self-orbiting behaviour physics
Improved performance on the "Orbit" weapon by optimising the orbiting behaviour physics
Reduced projectile lifetime of Blue Hole and Heart to improve performance
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's day 12 of daily patches, and this one's focused on adjusting some loot-related things, as well as some light bug fixes and quality of life changes.
I will probably end the daily updates at the 14 day mark, since my focus will be going towards the big December content update which you can read about here!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!

Fixed bug that made the Nimble Fabrics loot be listed as A rank, instead of B rank
Fixed bug that made it such that the "Hand" loot in the "Infinity" rarity gave an incorrect amount of money multiplier
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's the 11th day of daily patches, and this one's mostly focused on rebalancing different things so that a wider array of options are more viable! Mainly, percentage damage loot.
I also wanted to mention that yesterday's post outlines the plans for the first big content update for Desktop Defender, read more about it here!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!
Modified the % damage formula for loot, loot affecting % damage should be MUCH more effective now. It is now multiplicative, so note that if you're dealing low damage, it's probably because you have lots of negative % damage loot
Fixed bug that caused projectile speed to fire behind you if you had tons of loot with negative projectile speed modifiers
Made the minimum possible damage 1 instead of 0
Made it such that leveled up HP gets added on top of multiplied by your loot, so leveling up HP is more worth it even if you have a low HP-build through your loot
Fixed bug that caused your starting HP to be higher than it should've been after the previous HP fix
Buffed Burst, by making it such that it gets more affected by flat damage
Buffed Flamethrower, by making it such that it gets more affected by flat damage
Buffed Electromagnetism, by making it such that it gets more affected by flat damage
Buffed Revolver, by making it such that it gets more affected by flat damage
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's day 10 of daily patches, and this one's a nice QOL-focused one! However, there's some other stuff I want to talk to you all about...
I'm planning on releasing Desktop Defender's first big content update in December, focused on fleshing out the Rebirth System.
As it works now, Rebirthing erases all of your current progress, but gives you a +25% multiplicative bonus on Money and XP Gain. I've been testing out different things, and I'm really liking the expanded Rebirth system that I outline below:
Rebirthing can still only be done after hitting level 150, but now each rebirth forces you to get to a specific wave. E.g. the first one might be wave 95, the second wave 100, the third wave 102, etc.
Rebirthing will only give a +10% bonus, instead of +25%.
Similarly to the level progression, there will be a "Rebirth Progression". At certain Rebirth counts, you will unlock special bonuses that will power you up and make your next Rebirths quicker.
Below is the structure I've been testing out (subject to change, of course):
Rebirth 1 - Unlocks a 1.25x fast forward button
Rebirth 2 - Unlocks loot stash (3 loot)
Rebirth 3 - Start with all weapons unlocked
Rebirth 4 - 3 extra loot slots
Rebirth 5 - Unlocks an even more powerful loot tier, "Omega" loot
Rebirth 10 - +3 stash capacity
Rebirth 20 - 3 extra loot
Rebirth 30 - Unlocks a 1.5x fast forward button
Rebirth 40 - +3 stash capacity
Rebirth 50 - 3 extra loot
Rebirth 75 - Unlocks a 1.75x fast forward button
Rebirth 100 - +3 stash capacity
Rebirth 150 - Unlocks a 2x fast forward button
Rebirth 200 - Unlocks an even more powerful loot tier, "Radiant" loot
You can also see that as a part of the revamped Rebirth System, I've added extra features such as a stash (probably the most requested feature!), a fast forward button, and more!
I will be putting an update into the Steam beta branch in around 2 weeks with these additions/changes, and I would love it if you could test it out, and let me know if you like the changes! As I said before, this is totally subject to change, so your feedback will be key in making this revamped Rebirth system as good as possible!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are today's patch notes!
Made it such that if you have rebirthed at least once, all levels are automatically claimed
Made it such that you can exit menus by clicking "outside" of them
Made it such that if you die, the menu you had active reopens on reloading the game scene
Fixed some typos in text descriptions
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone! It's day 9 of daily patches, and today's one is makes great strides in even further improving the game's robustness and quality of life!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!
Made it such that whenever you open the levels menu, it automatically scrolls you to the earliest unclaimed level
Made it such that when you hover over weapons in the equip menu, it now shows their name
Removed the limit on only getting 1 level maximum per wave, and migrated the level system to allow for much larger values without crashing the game
Confirmed that the "mouse pulling bug" is FINALLY fixed!
Fixed bug that caused enemies to have 0 HP after wave 162
Made the backup recovery system more robust, so that the game automatically takes an old backup save file to resume from if your save was corrupted by the game getting turned off by power failure/computer update/etc.
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's now been 8 days since I started daily updates, not sure how long it'll last but I'm definitely continuing to do it while there's enough stuff to fit into them! Today's patch is a pretty good one, more incremental but still has a bunch of nice quality of life changes, I hope you like it!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!
Made it such that you can press and hold upgrade buttons in order to buy them as long as you're holding it down
Added yet another fix to hopefully solve the "mouse pulling" bug
Made it such that loot now stays in the game across play sessions, even if you close the game
Fixed bug that caused your resolution not to save if you changed it by clicking on the game window with right click and using the scroll wheel to adjust it
Made it such that loot trashed from your inventory gives you money, the same way that loot that you can pick up does
Fixed bug that made it such that loot that reduces HP could sometimes give you extra HP
Fixed bug that made it such that the Explosion weapon sometimes couldn't hit bosses
Fixed bug that caused the Explosion weapon to not show damage numbers when you hit bosses
- Conrad, Lead Developer
Hi everyone!
It's been 1 week since Desktop Defender launched, and it's going crazier than I ever expected. Since last week we:
Hit "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam
Reached 2,694 concurrent players
Became the top 5 most played new games
Pushed 27 updates
I can't wait to continue developing the game, and I'm loving all of your feedback! Today's patch marks 7 consecutive days of updates, and I hope you're all enjoying them!
Also, if you're enjoying the game, I would REALLY appreciate it if you reviewed it. It's the best thing you can do to support the game if you're enjoying it!
Anyways, below are the patch notes!Fixed bug that caused the explosion equip text to show that of the cogs
Fixed bug that prevented you from using the scroll wheel while right clicking the window to change the window size
Added a setting for projectile transparency
Added a setting for window transparency while the game is unfocused
When you trash loot, you now get money for it
Adjusted the HP formula for loot, making HP-giving loot significantly more powerful
Added an extra edge case to fix the issue of some players having their save data corrupted. Previously you could fix this by manually renaming one of the backup save files, now the game will do this automatically for you
Fixed bug that caused you not to be able to get the Strength achievements if your damage numbers setting was off
