Hi, I'm Edun, the developer behind Defense of Fort Burton.
A few months ago I released this game into early access as a side-scrolling action RPG/tower defense hybrid. The response was honest, and it told me the content was thin and the core gameplay wasn't clicking the way I wanted and not so many people have fun for it. So instead of patching around the edges, I took the game apart and rebuilt most of it from the ground up. This is the result — the first major update since early access launch.
What's changed
New perspective: The game has shifted from side-scrolling to a full top-down action RPG hybrid, blending real-time hero combat with tower defense strategy.
Heroes: Play single hero in battle with the hero oriented gameplay and can choose from few heroes, each with their own playstyle.
New systems: The Architect lets you build and expand your fort, placing ranged fighters into towers and melee fighters as a frontline — each with a unique role in your defense.
Lure mode: Replayable mode for grinding items, with near-endless enemy variety for players who want to keep testing their builds.
Build variety: Upgrade your heroes' equipment and your fighters, and mix builds across heroes, towers, and fighter placement to create the strongest defense for your playstyle.
Expanded story: The main story now runs 30 stages — the current build opens up through stage 10, with more to come.
Gameplay
Fort Burton is hero-driven at its core: you control a hero directly in real-time combat, while building up your fort as you progress. Through the Architect, you construct towers and set up your defense by placing ranged fighters into them, while melee fighters hold the line as a frontline defense. Beyond combat, Lure mode gives you an optional way to grind for upgrade materials whenever you want, without limiting how you build.
Where the game stands
It's playable and I'm proud of where it's landed, but it is not finished. Expect some minor bugs as I continue polishing — this is still early access. The game currently runs only 10 main stories and few quests, and the hero option is only one. Though balancing is needed in the future alongside with the future updates.
What's next
This update is chapter one of the rebuild. More story stages, systems, and polish are planned in future updates — all free.
No DLC, ever
Just continued free updates as the game grows.
The price for Defense of Fort Burton is now $7.99 (previously $9.99), reflecting where the game stands today, as the content grows the plan is rising up to $12.99
Thank you
Thank you to everyone who stuck around since the first release, gave feedback, or left a review even when the game wasn't where it needed to be. This update exists because of that. If you run into bugs or have feedback, Discord is the best place to reach me directly.
