Something has shifted in the tunnels beneath Devil Reef. The walls remember you now. When the horrors come, there is nowhere left to run. This is our most intense update yet, and the reef will not let you leave the way you found it.
The Gates Have Closed
The single biggest change to how you survive down here:
encounter gates. Step into the wrong room and eldritch smoke coils up across the exits, sealing you in until the horde is dead.
Spawn events now drive the enemies that hunt you. We have seeded these encounters across
all three acts, reworking rooms from the shallows to Dagon's domain. Some fights swarm the whole room. Others coil tight around wherever you happen to be standing. All of them end only when the last thing in the dark stops moving. Gates are fully synced in co-op, so you and your fellow investigators are locked in together, for better or worse.
Roll the Bones: The Curse Dice
Your sanity has always been the real final boss. Now it speaks in dice. As your mind frays past each threshold, the
Curse Dice are cast, and you choose what the madness becomes. We have rebuilt the entire system around these rolls. Incantations have shed their old negative effects entirely, and boons and eldritch incantations no longer cost you sanity to claim. The bargain is cleaner now, and crueler.
Lock, Load, Reload
Weapons have teeth again. Every gun in the arsenal has been
rebalanced around a faster time-to-kill, tuned for a more aggressive, kinetic fight. We have added a proper
reload mechanic, with a slider that rises above your character so you always know exactly how exposed you are, plus a rebindable reload key for those who like control at their fingertips.
Spoils and Sacrifices
There is more to find, and more to give up. This update adds
over 30 new items, including upgrade items that now offer a sacrifice choice for those willing to trade something dear for power. Several rewards have been redesigned: the
Anglerfish Eye rewards keeping your distance with bonus damage, and the
Harvest Hook now raises your Dagonite drop chance on environmental and trap kills.
Further Disturbances
- Curse HUD icons now show which afflictions are active on current level.
- Deep Ones have had their health nerfed across all three tiers.
- Fatal, cinematic death animations now trigger when a critical hit finishes an enemy.
- Spectator camera now defaults to your local player when you begin spectating.
- Daily Challenges now share a single seeded character across all players and correctly ignore meta upgrades.
- Numerous multiplayer sync fixes for effects, health bars, and curse state, plus a long list of stability and null-reference cleanups.
The tunnels are hungrier than they were. Cross the threshold, roll the bones, and see how far your sanity carries you. As always, tell us what you find down there. Your reports from the deep shape everything we build.
See you in the dark.
