Escape to a new life in Gold Leaf Isle where, through a series of mysterious letters, you’ll find yourself tasked with rescuing adorable, fantasy critters in need of your help. Design and run your own café, care for your critters, uncover the secrets of mysterious portals, and create a wholesome café for all to enjoy! The event runs 12 May @ 10:00am PDT/19:00pm CET to 19 May @ 10:00am PDT/19:00pm CET. And if you find yourself needing even more critters for your collection, the Little Critters Festival[ is also taking place from 13 May - 20 May, which we'll be featuring in. Back in November we announced our partnership with Just to create a new cosy space where Critter Café players could earn real-money rewards for sharing their creativity, ideas and knowledge. Since then we’ve received some amazing contributions via Just About Critter Café from crocheted critters to promotional posters, with more rewards still receiving entries. Hi friends! The first post-launch update for Critter Café, available on both Steam and Nintendo Switch, addresses a number of player-requested changes and introduces more quality of life improvements. We hope you enjoy the new update! The Critter Café team will continue to gather community feedback and keep you informed on any further planned changes.

• Sprint Toggle option added. This allows players to enable an option for players to Sprint with a single button press, instead of having to hold a button down
• Toggle options added for pushing/pulling blocks during puzzles, and for the coffee pouring minigame in Open for Trade
• During Open for Trade, Critters will no longer block or impede the player when they are moving across the café
• Selected portal puzzles will include additional guidance to help players complete them, following community feedback
• In the Tutorials section of the Journal, further guidance for Bookings has been added to assist players on how to select the correct items
• Updated the descriptions for the ‘Best of Friends’ and We’re All Best Friends Here’ achievements to clarify how to complete them. Players must interact with all Critters who have reached Max Bond and trigger the ‘best friends’ cutscene for these achievements to unlock
• Roaming behaviour of Critters during Open for Trade has been adjusted, meaning Critters can seem livelier around customers
• Added more settings to adjust the speed of the camera and floor cursor in Customisation Mode
• Steam Deck: Fixes and improvements to controller behaviour when using an external controller
• Steam Deck: Fixed issue causing only three columns to appear in the Critterpedia section
• Fixed instances of Critters incorrectly floating after the ‘Max Bond’ animation is skipped
• Multiple fixes and improvements to localisation and localised text on screen

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone for your support so far on Critter Café. It’s still incredible to see something that began life as a game jam prototype now available to the world, and enjoyed by many people. We’ve loved seeing your stories, journeys, and thoughts on the game, and look forward to seeing more! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45051973/1afcb625fbb3b478fbb79b6c930ce60d6a6f59d5.png We’re pleased to confirm that an update for Critter Café is planned to be released, simultaneously on Steam and Nintendo Switch, early this year. This update will focus on adding a handful of changes and options that our players have requested, either to improve the overall experience, or to further assist with accessibility. There will also be technical fixes to improve performance on all platforms and devices. Further assistance and guidance will be added in some areas of the game, including with Bookings, how to complete certain challenges, and with selected puzzles that our community highlighted as particularly difficult. Critter behaviour in the café during ‘Open for Trade’ shifts is also an area we plan to address, aiming to make them more lively around customers, whilst ensuring they no longer impede the player’s movement around the café. Also, we’re looking at adding toggle options for multiple actions that currently require the player to hold down a button or key, as well as more player choice for camera and cursor speed when customising spaces. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45051973/5ad2b91f188c0b2a6d6010ad706ba5ec90c8af32.png Work on this update is ongoing right now, and it’ll take a little time to finalise the changes and go through the required processes for updating on both Steam and Switch. Cozy creature raising and café management game Critter Café has partnered with the team at Lofi Girl to produce a chill hip-hop remix and video based on the game. You can join us for the premiere live on YouTube this Monday at 2pm GMT here: Featuring a Critter Café-inspired environment brought to life in the Lofi Girl style, this official collaboration stars a remixed version of the overworld music from Critter Cafe's Emerald Bay location. Fans should keep an eye out for some of their favourite Critters in the video, from a sleeping Mogbert to a very energetic Luvhen, alongside a wealth of other Critter Café Easter eggs to spot among the furniture and decorations. When Critter Café opens its doors on November 26 for Steam and Nintendo Switch, your very own café will be at the centre of a cosy, magical journey. But what good is running a café if it’s never open? Plus, how can you make sure you're serving the best possible eats and treats to your customers? In this post, let's take a closer look at how to run your café, so it operates as nicely as it looks! When you decide the time is right for your café to be open for business, head over to the register at the back right of the café. Select the Critters who’ll accompany you on your shift, and get ready for some eager customers to arrive. This lot of land on Gold Leaf Isle has potential, but needs plenty of TLC to turn it into a beautiful place to enjoy treats and tipples. Choose between different table and seating options – some for 1-2 customers, and some for larger parties – with different styles and colours to pick from. Opt for an open social space with long tables and stools, or create small and secluded nooks for solo customers to get comfy. Rescuing Critters is a rewarding challenge in Critter Café, deciphering puzzle-filled portals to discover a friend in need. This, though, is just the beginning of your story with a Critter! Once you’ve completed a rescue, you should head on over to Critter Café’s Habitat to meet up with your new pal. The Habitat is where all your Critters reside. You can explore it to find your favourites, or use the bell by the entrance to call them to you. These options will open and diversify, the more that you progress. Critter Café is home to a wide variety of Critters, but you won't find all of them at your café from day one. That's because they've been trapped inside mysterious portals throughout Gold Leaf Isle, and it's up to you to rescue them! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45051973/07fdc855efb96da47c28830d9e735d9d25e1d0c4.png Once you've earned a potion through managing your café, you'll be able to head out into the world and use that potion to open a portal. After leaping inside, you'll find yourself in a mysterious new area, with a whole new aesthetic. Anyone who has played our Steam Next Fest Demo will know that some of these puzzles involve pushing blocks to clear paths and create bridges. They might seem simple at first, but they can get pretty fiendish over time. Take a stroll through the beehives in the apiary, check out the apple trees in the picnic area, or get your steps in running around the fountain. Rumour has it that new pieces of furniture for your café and habitat – as well as new clothing items for character customisation – can be found on cards scattered around the world. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT IN THE CRITTER CAFÉ DEMO?

The demo will include the first slice of the Critter Café experience, starting from the very beginning of the game. You’ll be able to play through the first handful of ‘days’ in the game, introducing you to key features and characters. You’ll have a chance to run your café for the first time, serving customers and fulfilling their orders via fun minigames. Also, you’ll be able to customise the look and layout of your café – from the furniture, to the wallpaper, to Critter toys – with an early set of unlocked items. Away from the café, you will have the chance to find and rescue your first two Critters. Rescuing them will require solving puzzles, which sometimes require tools to solve. You’ll get the first of those items during the demo. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45051973/ee7c90e5b077d8cffb3998a4ee2de054d56256dd.jpg Once rescued, you’ll have the chance to build a bond with your Critters, discover potential traits that influence their behaviour, and even have them in your café, setting up bookings for guests to meet them. Did you know that Critter Café started out as a Game Jam project? It all started in the summer of 2022, when development studio Sumo Newcastle held an internal Game Jam alongside publisher Secret Mode. The brief was to create a game pitch for a title that would fit into Secret Mode’s catalogue, and gameplay programmer Eleanor Gregory (she/her) entered with a wholesome idea based on: ‘A cat café for fantasy animals’. After being crowned the winner, Eleanor Gregory joined a small team to start exploring the concept as a full game, and it’s from this point onwards that Critter Café began to take shape as the game you now know and love. As you can see from our recent trailer, Eleanor's wonderful idea of a cosy, fantastic world has come on so much, and we can't wait for you experience the end result, when Critter Café launches on November 26. You don't even have to wait that long for a taste of the experience, as a demo for the game will be available as part of Steam Next Fest, from October 14! The release date was announced as part of today's Convergence Games Showcase, giving viewers a further glimpse into the life of a Critter Café manager. But that's not all! What's a Critter Café without its Critters? If you've watched our announcement trailer, you'll have seen a few of these adorable fantasy creatures already, either waiting to be rescued or helping around the café. Here, we're going to be looking at a few of them one by one, so you can get to know them a little better before you venture forth to save them. Mogbert is one of the very first Critters you'll find in Critter Café. They're very small, very soft, and very round. They don't even have legs! How does Mogbert get around the café? Another flower! They even have a giant love heart on their chest!
