With Chivalry 2, we set out to make the ultimate medieval battlefield game: an unparalleled multiplayer experience that realized our dream of being a warrior on the fields of battle, inspired by classic medieval movie scenes and old tales of glory from history. When the game launched, we pledged to at least double the size of Chivalry 2 post-launch by adding new maps, modes, weapons, features, and experiences to ensure we had delivered a strong and lasting vision of the ultimate medieval battlefield game. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/552a7433693584c1af5c055352ffb329f8663757.png We’ve chronicled all of our post-launch support at chivalry2.com/roadmap and feel that, after over three years of support, we have more than accomplished our goal by significantly increasing the game’s content, features, and quality beyond the initial target. In March, we released Duel of the Fêtes, the 10th major content update for Chivalry 2, which added requested features like Unofficial Servers and Skill Based Team Balance alongside new maps, cosmetics, and more. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/d5aa43afba27d3a0f522d7f0335ee6eedd167877.jpg Over the course of the game’s schedule of updates, we’re proud to have brought players an array of content and features since the game launched, including a massive boost to the number of Team Objective maps (increasing the count from 5 to 13), adding mounted combat, a Last Team Standing mode as well as new rotating modes like Brawl and Mounted Arena, the Tenosian faction, hundreds of new armory items, 8 new weapons, major new progression features, and much, much more. As the game's 11th and final content piece, released in May, the Regicide Update revealed to players the narrative conclusion of Chivalry 2’s war between Argon II and Malric. This update included one of our proudest creations to date, the cinematic Team Objective map “Citadel” - which pits the two kings against each other for a final duel that makes a fitting end to an epic saga. With the Regicide Update we consider the game to be content and feature complete. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/6b357753471ec491cc9c860e8a91b7da2f716860.png Though every story comes to an end, we know many players will be disappointed by the news - but this isn’t the end for the Chivalry franchise. With this final content update delivered to players, we’re excited to focus our efforts and resources on compelling new multiplayer projects, both in the Chivalry universe as well as within terrifying new co-op territory. We’ve been building our team in number and skillset to take on these following challenges, with a focused effort to ensure that when the next Chivalry title is released, it will utterly blow players away. This isn’t the end for Chivalry 2, either—the game will continue to be supported for maintenance of any critical issues affecting the player base. Balance Changes - Regicide at Trayan Citadel

Fuse Stage

• Fuse Timer decreased from 30 seconds down to 25 seconds
• Reduced delay in Agathian spawn positioning change during the second phase of placing powder kegs

VIP vs VIP Stage

• Increased the possible final timer by 3 minutes
• Fixed bug that caused Argon's health to be slightly less than intended
• Reduced the spawn delay for Agathian troops by 1 second

Dev Notes: We’ve loved hearing all the reception and feedback towards Trayan Citadel! We’re so glad our community has been enjoying the spectacle of the new map. Although we love that Argon's final push to avenge his father was reflected in this difficulty for attackers, after monitoring matches and feedback since the release, we believe Argon and his troops need a little assistance, particularly in the later half of the map. Do not worry, defenders, as plenty of opportunities remain to hold back the Agathians and protect Malric from these unjust invaders.

• Fixed a bug showing the “Painted Maiden Helmet Featherless” as a purchasable cosmetic with gold, where it should only be earnable through the Regicide Campaign Pass

• Fixed an issue that could allow a player to access the enemy VIP spawn on Citadel earlier than intended
• Fixed a rare bug that could prevent a VIP from spawning on Citadel
• Fixed a bug that prevented the spikes on Duel Yard from dealing damage to players
• Fixed a potential crash that could occur on Duel Yard

Unofficial Servers

• Improved server command protections
• Fixed a bug that could kick players out of the match when traveling between maps
• Added visual ban list on Nitrado interface
• Fixed a case where XP and gold weren’t being correctly awarded on unofficial servers

• Fixed a bug that prevented a ballista from being fired again if the Arrow Cam was used in the previous shot

Additional Notes: Due to the nature of this Hotfix, PC Players will experience a larger-than-average download size when prompted to re-download the game for proper Hotfix installation. In addition to today's Hotfix notes, we've released a new blog about the future of Chivalry 2.

After many months of warfare, King Argon II and the allied Agathian noble houses make one final push to breach the walls of Trayan Citadel, the heart of Vantear and the Mason Order. However, Malric Terrowin will not stand for such insolence. New Team Objective Map - “Regicide at Trayan Citadel”

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/f1ddff4ec6c5c547ecc56e243819b47aa8b8aad9.jpg Agathians rally around their final hope in breaching the city walls: their battle ram of war called “The Lion’s Thrust.” In order to safely escort the ram, Agathians must retake the outer encampment from the Masons and regain the frontline strength. Should they breach the walls, the Agathian army must continue and blast their way to Malric’s castle through the Citadel, complete with a dreadful volcano (though some of the details, as told by tavern bards in the past, were highly exaggerated). The final stage will evoke Malric’s wrath, bringing him to the field of battle in a face-off against Argon II, leader of the Agathian Knights. Players must then fight and defend their king. Only one shall have claim to the kingdom!

New Weapon - “Goedendag”

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/29832ba929bb707eb4515a30a86ec85a46e61f8b.jpg A brutal weapon for a brutal age. Adding to the Poleman and Engineer’s subclass arsenal, the Goedendag is the shortest polearm of them all but the strongest and most versatile in damage output. While its slashes and overheads deal blunt damage, its stabs deal pierce damage, allowing the weapon to deal maximum damage to multiple class armour types. Be mindful of your attacks depending on the kind of opponent you are facing! In addition, this weapon’s special attack does massive damage against horses, stopping them in their tracks with a successfully timed blow. Take note of your swings during heavy attacks, as they are noticeably slower in comparison to your normal attacks.

Dev Notes: Since the release of Unofficial Servers with Update 2.10, we’ve been working closely with our Nitrado partners to determine how to enhance this new feature. So far, improvements have been performance issues adjustments, potential bug fixes, adding new Admin options, and implementing Nitrado Steelshield. (An added layer of protection against DDOS attacks) We’ve also been monitoring the community feedback around the lack of Gold/XP earned within Unofficial Servers and how this difference could make playing within an Unofficial Server less appealing, especially to newer players. As of Update 2.11, Gold and XP gains will be enabled across all Unofficial Servers. We still reserve the right to make adjustments and take action if we see that the improper gain or boosting of Gold/XP becomes popular. Still, we believe that a majority of servers will not abuse this added feature; instead, it will help bolster and highlight the excellent Unofficial Servers that users have been able to create.

General

• Updated anti-cheat security on all platforms.

As our 2.10.1 Hotfix notes mentioned, our team has been working hard on this next stage of anti-cheat protection for Chivalry 2. This security update will help stop users who have been bypassing our anti-cheat protections and add further tools our moderation team can use to address cheaters and their multiple accounts. We believe this security update will help curb the use of cheats within Chivalry 2, although we know there may still be outliers that bypass even the new protection. Not to worry; our staff and moderation team will be on hand working hard to address any future tickets and reports regarding cheaters. If you believe you have encountered a user in-game who may be cheating, here are some steps to report them.

How to report a suspected cheater:

In-Game Reporting:

• Open the in-game scoreboard.
  • Xbox Button: Menu Button > Scoreboard
  • PS Button: Start Button > Scoreboard
  • PC Key: TAB
• Navigate the scoreboard till you find the offending user.
• Select the user and use the "Report" option.

ChivMail Reporting:

• To Access the ChivMail bot you'll need to join our Official Discord.
  • ChivMail can be found on the top right of the User List once you've entered the Discord.

• Attach this video in a message to the ChivMail Bot on Discord in addition to the suspected user's in-game username.
  • Videos should be around 30 seconds long and clearly show the suspected user using in-game cheats if possible. (If the video is too large for Discord, it can be uploaded unlisted onto a streaming platform like Youtube)
• This will start a ticket on the topic that our moderators can respond to if additional information is needed.
• Additional Step for EGS / Steam Users - Acquire the user's PlayerID:
  • Open the console by pressing ( ~ ) or ( NUMPAD - ) (If your console does not open, you may have to "Enable developer console" in GAME SETTINGS) (Rebindable in the setting if necessary)

General

• Fixed a bug that caused a player to be disconnected from a server when spawning at particular points on the Duelyard map.
• Fixed a bug with the skill-based team balance feature that did not correctly allocate players between attack and defense.
• Fixed a bug that prevented some players from being banned correctly from Unofficial Servers.

Now that the skill-based team balancing feature has been fixed, it will also be re-enabled for all platforms once this Hotfix has gone live. Although this Hotfix was smaller, we wanted to address these more pressing bugs first while our team continues to work on fixes for our other known issues. We have also contributed significant time towards further testing the next layer of anti-cheat we mentioned in our Community Blog. While we test this next stage in the fight against cheaters, we will continue to act against those who bypass our protections to cheat within Chivalry, promote cheats, encourage the use of cheats to others, or break our Code of Conduct in any additional ways.

Torn Banner Studios and Nitrado are dedicated to making Unofficial Servers the best experience possible for the Chivalry 2 Player Base.

Why is my server having unstable performance?

• Since the release of Unofficial Servers, we’ve been tracking the community response very closely. After observing many reports and matches, it’s clear that small matches are performing nicely. Yet, as the scale of participating players increases, the server’s performance decreases for all involved. We understand that this performance degradation has made genuine 64-player matches difficult, and the issues have disproportionately affected those spending the most to host a server. We hear you and are working hand in hand with Nitrado to resolve these problems as soon as possible.

Why don’t Unofficial Servers offer Gold or XP?

• At launch, we chose not to have Unofficial Servers provide Gold or XP as the potential for server hosts and players to abuse the system was relatively high. We want Gold, especially XP, to signify your time and dedication to Chivalry 2. Our team is looking into how we can prevent this potential abuse and at the opportunity of bringing Gold and XP to Unofficial Servers in some capacity in the future.

Why are all servers capped at 1GB of RAM?

• Per Nitrado, The visual presentation of RAM usage is dynamic and covers the upper range of the graph. The RAM limit is not capped at 1GB. The game server gets as much RAM as needed. The hard limit is beyond the scope of what a Chivalry 2 server will ever require to guarantee the quality of the game experience for all customers.

How was the pricing for Unofficial Servers determined?

• Initial prices for Unofficial Servers were set with the guidance of Nitrado and the resources needed to support up to 64 players on a single server. We’ll be working with Nitrado to see if the opportunity to offer future sales is possible.

Were Unofficial Servers stress-tested before launch?

• Yes, Unofficial Servers were stress-tested before launch. Although we did all we could internally, it wasn’t feasible for us to match the scale that has been able to be achieved once the feature went live to the public player base. A larger scale has revealed specific bugs and problems we are working to improve.

What protections are available around DDOS attacks?

• Our first FAQ states that Nitrado servers all come with basic DDOS protections. We’ve already implemented an extra layer on top of the basic DDOS Protections and are continuing to explore additional server protections. These are expected after Update 2.10 since they will take longer to implement on the development side.

Will Torn Banner work with other server providers for Unofficial Servers?

• Both Torn Banner Studios and Nitrado are dedicated to improving the Unofficial Server experience with the help of players and their feedback. At this time, we don’t plan to host Unofficial Chivalry 2 servers through partners other than Nitrado.

Why can’t we rent a US Central server?

• Currently, US Central is not a region that Nitrado natively supports. At the moment, Nitrado has yet to share any plans to add US Central servers, but we have passed on the community feedback that US Central servers would be appreciated. We have been and continue to communicate with them regarding this request.

Why can’t we skip maps in Unofficial Servers?

• Our primary command to skip maps has some instability tied to it that we are currently looking into. Therefore, we are exploring alternate commands to make available to server admins that could fill a similar role while we work on improving the stability of the primary command. We’ll let the community know through our Official Social channels if additional commands become available.

Can we get the opportunity to purchase a higher tick-rate server?

• Complete confidence in a tick rate change option would require game-wide testing on all modes, maps, and all possible player counts. With community concerns already around server stability, we consider this outside of scope at this time.

Why are TO objectives set at 10 minutes for each phase by default?

• We didn’t have an opportunity to complete the review of all stage times across all maps before the release of unofficial servers, as most of the time dedicated to this feature was devoted to adding it as an option. When time permits, we’ll look to set up default times in the Nitrado web interface. In the meantime, this information is available via our FAQ.

Known Bugs around Unofficial Servers we are investigating:

• Servers showing capped at 1GB Ram
• Inability to kick/ban some users
• Man At Arms spawning without primary weapons in LTS

The highly requested Unofficial Server support feature is now live! Players can now rent their own servers through Nitrado and customize them to their liking. Looking to organize a community event? Want to play only Brawl with your friends and nothing else? This is the place to go! Players will find a “Rent A Server” button directly in-game below when viewing the Server Browser, allowing them to begin the Unofficial server process. Unofficial Servers have the following customizable features:

Want to know more? Check out our Unofficial Server FAQ! With the release of unofficial servers, our standalone duel servers will become social spaces. It will be up to the players how they use these spaces, therefore we will no longer be actively moderating for “RDM” (Random Death Match Instances i.e. attacking players randomly like you would in the free-for-all gamemode). Players must still however comply with our Code of Conduct and ToS.

New Major Feature - Skill Based Team Balancing

Teams will now balance players with an algorithm derived from global rank before the start of a given match. Once balanced, players will be unable to switch teams unless in the event of unbalanced player counts or when switched automatically by the game to maintain team balancing parameters. The following modes will have Skill Based Team Balancing enabled:

• 64 Player Team Objective (Matchmaking Queue)
• 40 Player Mixed Modes (Matchmaking Queue)
• Last Team Standing (Limited Time Queue and Standalone Servers)

This feature is currently not available for 3v3 Arena and Unofficial Servers, but we are exploring the option to add it in the future. Additional Notes: This feature was designed to help balance the start of a match, while still maintaining tight restrictions post-balancing around team size discrepancies. It behaves differently than a Skill Based Matchmaking system that would create entire lobbies of similarly skilled players ultimately requiring a much larger scope of work and introducing more risk. Due to the size of most of our lobbies, it made more sense for us to apply the balancing within the match itself. Just before a match begins after all players have loaded in, the server will perform a shuffle taking into consideration players' global ranks as well as their premade parties before assigning them a team. The system is built to prioritize parties staying together. The balance algorithm in use is not solely trying to achieve a 1:1 balance according to global rank. After the shuffle is complete, teams must not create an imbalance of more than 1 player at any one time, or Team Switching will be restricted. For example: if there are two teams of 16 players and one player in spectate, that player can swap to either team as the new numbers would be 17 vs 16 (an imbalance of 1). But if there is a team of 17 and a team of 16, the player in spectate will be unable to swap to the team of 17, as that would create 18 vs 16 (an imbalance of 2). Both 64 and 40-player matches in the server browser remain unaffected by this new feature as they are currently treated as a more social space for playing Team Objective and Team Deathmatch.

Known Issues

Unofficial Servers

• Post Match Screen displays gold/xp when no gold/xp is awarded
• Players temporarily appear with no customization or rank after entering a server after a crash (This resolved around 5 minutes after the crash and requires re-entering the server)
• Servers left up over extended periods of time can have their timer desync. We generally recommend a server reset at most every few days
• Travel to/from LTS maps causes players to be level 1 with level 0 classes and no admin powers
• Workaround: re-enter the server after the map travel is complete

Cross-Platform Parties BETA

• New leader's name does not display for other clients on pop-up banner when old leader leaves
• In game UI may not list all players in the party
• Xbox Series X cannot remove a Steam friend
• Occasional "Travel To Session Failed" deyncs the party
• Parties that take longer than 30 seconds to load in may not end up on the same team as the rest of the party

What can I name my server?

We would like you to name your server whatever you like! As long as it complies with the following:

• Your server may not have “official” in the server name, or be made to imply it is a TBS Official Server in any capacity.
• Your server must comply with our ToS and Code of Conduct policies.
• No verbal abuse, racism, sexism, politics, religion, or inappropriate messages.
• No inappropriate or adult conversations or links.

How can I reserve an Unofficial Server?

What is the recommended player count? (By Game Mode)

Unofficial Servers allow players to customize their Chivalry experience in the way that they want. This freedom however is not without its risks. When creating a match list, please reference the recommended player counts for each game mode. Deviating from this is allowed but can adversely affect the player experience and cause severe bugs (such as players not being able to spawn or crashing players out).

• Team Objective (TO): 2-64 Players (2-52 if horses are enabled)
• Team DeathMatch (TDM): 2-64 Players (2-52 if horses are enabled)
• Last Team Standing (LTS): 2-64 Players
• Free For All (FFA): 2-40 Players

What settings can I customize?

For stability reasons, servers with horses selected will be capped at 52 players at a time.

Are Unofficial servers cross-platform?

Yes, Unofficial servers are cross-platform.

What DDOS Protections are available on my server?

Nitrado Servers all come with basic DDOS Protections on their servers. In addition, we are exploring additional protections for users post Update 2.10.

Can I set multiple admins on Unofficial servers?

Yes, the server owner can allow multiple trusted users to help admin their server.

What permissions do admins have on Unofficial servers?

Although we’d love for both Xbox/Playstation and PC Server Admins to have the same level of permissions within their server, without access to the in-game console these commands are unable to be performed if you aren’t playing on PC.

How does banning work on Unofficial servers?

Admins can ban a player through the admin ban command (see above) and unban through the related unban command. If server owners wish to remove a ban on a player, it is their discretion to remove that player from the ban list. Global game bans that have been applied by moderators/staff indirectly apply to Unofficial servers, as banned players cannot play Chivalry 2 in any capacity during their ban. NOTE: Currently there is no total list of players banned visually to the player, so if server owners would like to keep track of which accounts they have banned they will have to do so independently. This may change in the future. NOTE: It is completely within the discretion of the server owner who they want to ban for whatever reason. These bans are local to the Unofficial server and cannot be appealed to our Moderators or Torn Banner Studios unless there is evidence of wrongdoing that breaks our ToS.

Can RDMs (Random Death Match) be reported to Chivmail?

No, it is up to the discretion of the server owner to moderate their servers. 

Do we earn experience/gold while playing on an Unofficial server?

Since the experience is completely tailored to the server owner’s preferences, we are currently unable to regulate experience rates within Unofficial servers. Therefore no experience/gold is awarded while playing on an Unofficial server.

Do global player mutes apply on Unofficial servers?

Yes, muted players are also unable to talk on Unofficial servers.

Keep-In-Mind

Class Limits

Setting restrictions on all classes or subclasses will have negative consequences if all of the slots for each class are filled. For example, if each class or subclass is set to 10% before filling, then only 40% of your team will be able to spawn. This can also have effects on team swapping between teams and from spectator mode.

Team Objective Base Stage Times

Through the web interface, server owners can set the base stage times of each team objective map. For example, across each stage of Coxwell, a base time of 5 minutes could be set.

• Stage 1: 5 Minutes
• Stage 2: 5 Minutes
• Stage 3: 5 Minutes
• Stage 4: 5 Minutes
• Stage 5: 5 Minutes

Now, this is reflected a little bit differently in the way maps calculate overall stage time. If players take 3 minutes to complete stage 1, there are 2 minutes left remaining. Each map has a set “Carryover” time between objectives, which is how much time remains on a previous stage that can be added to the next stage. So if Stage 1 takes 3 minutes (with 2 minutes remaining), with a carryover time of 2 minutes. (Stage 2 base 5 minutes + 2 minutes carryover = 7 minutes). If stage 1 takes 4 minutes however with only 1 minute remaining, it would only add the extra minute. (Stage 2 = base 5 minutes + 1 minute carryover = 6 minutes) In a third case, if stage 1 takes 1 minute (4 minutes remaining), it can only add a max of 2 minutes of those 4 remaining minutes to the next stage. (Stage 2 = base 5 minutes + 2 minutes carryover = 7 minutes) Please keep this in mind when setting your base stages.

Admin Commands Syntax

To access the in-game console to submit these commands first a player needs to be on PC. Next, you’ll need to navigate to your Settings > Options > Game Tab > General > “Enable Console” > Enabled. Finally, once in-game the console can be opened with the ~ key by default.

To find a player's ID within a match first open the console with the ~ key. Next type the command ListPlayers. This will copy a list of player names and IDs to your clipboard. Map Rotation

Servers always start with the default map after a server restart, in this case FFA_Duelyards After the next map begins, your map list will follow your set rotation. Note about the map order: the server holds an index of the current map in the map order. If the server is 3 maps in, and the server restarts, a server restart will cause the server to go to FFA_Duelyards as the default, and then navigate to map index 4. 

Known Issues

• Post Match Screen displays gold/xp when no gold/xp is awarded
• Players temporarily appear with no customization or rank after entering a server after a crash (This resolved around 5 minutes after the crash and requires re-entering the server)
• Servers left up over extended periods of time can have their timer desync. We generally recommend a server reset at least every few days
• Travel to/from LTS maps causes players to be level 1 with level 0 classes and no admin powers. (Workaround: re-enter the server after the map travel is complete.)

We hope you’ve all been having a wondrous time on the battlefield since the Reclamation update released at the end of 2023. As we forge the next update, we wanted to have a conversation with the Chivalry community about some of the exciting things coming in Update 2.10 (which is coming very soon!) and speak on some of the pain points we’ve seen from players that we haven’t had the opportunity to provide an official response to yet. Before we look to the future with our 2.10 update, we wanted to reflect on the 2.9 Reclamation update and bring our learnings to the (round) table.

Reclamation Update 2.9 - Recap

🔹The Reclamation of Montcrux - Map A key feature of 2.9 undoubtedly was the brand new map and battlefield experience of ‘The Reclamation of Montcrux.’ When our team came up with the initial concept behind Montcrux, they based the idea on an epic medieval movie-style fight where the Agathians had to fight a literal uphill battle to reclaim the home that was once theirs. While Montcrux encapsulated this memorable feeling, we understand that sometimes, leaning into the more thematic side of level design can make parts of this map feel less competitive than others. We’ve been closely monitoring the balance of Montcrux and have previously implemented some changes in the 2.9.2 Hotfix to balance out the Attackers and Defenders. Feedback and performance will continue to be monitored. If more adjustments need to be made to give that epic feeling that a win was earned well or that a loss is just a temporary setback, we will continue to adapt as necessary. We have heard community concern that Montcrux is shorter than players would have liked to see. As the map is meant to focus on thematic moments, having a concise battle structure made more sense. For now, we don’t plan to add additional phases to Montcrux. Still, we have a future map in the works that will satiate that desire for a long and hard-fought epic battle, so sharpen your swords, collect your quivers, and be ready. 🔹Siege Crossbow - Weapon Our original intent behind the Siege Crossbow was a weapon that would be able to rival the non-objective siege weapons and constructables around the map and give opposing teams a fighting chance against ballistas, catapults, etc. However, the unique nature of the Siege Crossbow and its signature ability to damage these constructables brought unforeseen complications late in the development cycle of Update 2.9 that would have created a less-than-favorable situation. Due to our desire to craft the best experience possible for all our players, the hard decision was made to cut the damage it dealt to non-objective constructables for the 2.9 release and address those obstacles further in the next update. These events unfolded late into the development of 2.9, leaving us unable to communicate this situation more clearly with our players. We apologize for any confusion around the initial release of the Siege Crossbow. We are excited to announce that our team resolved those complications for Update 2.10! We can’t wait to see what all of you do with the Siege Crossbow in 2.10 now that it’s gained so much of its versatility back, and we are excited for you to share that new destruction with us. Please. 🔹Last Peasant Standing - Game Mode Last Peasant Standing has been one of our most requested game modes. We love the enthusiasm we’ve seen based on its first run through the rotation. We are as excited as y’all to see it return to the limited-time queue.  🔹Launch Delays The delays of Update 2.9 are already a topic that we’ve touched on in the past. Still, we’d like to assure the community that since the launch of 2.9, we have made vast improvements that should make the previously seen delays unlikely to be repeated. Our team is dedicated to doing everything we can to prevent these delays from happening in the future. Now, we’d like to look forward; there are a few subjects that we’d like to officially acknowledge and give additional context to that we haven’t had an appropriate opportunity to touch on so far. 🔸Cheaters Cheaters are a topic that almost every multiplayer game has to address at some point, but also an issue that has to be handled with the utmost caution. Any additional information we reveal regarding our process in handling cheaters or what alterations we are making could give those bad actors an advantage in trying to circumvent the systems we’ve put in place. We can say in no uncertain terms that addressing “cheaters” or players who try to use third-party software to gain an unfair advantage within Chivalry 2 is one of our top priorities. Our team has issued thousands of account, IP, and hardware bans to prevent these users from being able to continue their detrimental behavior, and we are working on a more robust form of Anti-Cheat. These steps are just part of the overall system and work hand-in-hand with reports from our players to fight the scourge that is cheating. 🔸Team Switching Throughout the history of Chivalry, players have been given the option to choose which side of the battle they’d like to contribute to. Although this feature is not seen within many multiplayer games nowadays, we believe it still holds a special place within Chivalry to allow players to live their fantasy and choose which side of the epic battle they’d like to fight on. Suppose they’d like to play as the noble Agathians, the dreadful Masons, or the ruthless Tenosians. The team switch feature opens the choice up to the player. While we see its value even if some players may be misusing the option, we have been exploring a method to bring both visions closer together (balance vs preference). Our team has been monitoring some negative feedback around the team switch feature and the calls for its removal. At the center of these feelings seems to be the situation in which a player doesn’t believe their match is well-balanced and will use the team switch feature to join the “winning” team, contributing to a further imbalance. To help address that underlying issue, we have been working on a new change we hope to release very soon. It will be a skill-based team-balancing feature that will consider a player’s global rank before a match to even out a match’s attacking and defending sides. Despite knowing that the skill-based team-balancing system won’t completely remove the possibility of unbalanced matches, we are excited to hear player feedback after this new feature has launched regarding the team switch feature and its place within Chivalry 2 afterward. 🔸Official Mod Support Although we have heard requests from parts of the community that official Chivalry 2 mod support would be valued, at this juncture, we don’t have it on our timeline for something we’d be able to deliver in the foreseeable future. In addition to today’s Community Blog, we’ll be releasing the Chivalry 2 Code of Conduct and updating the rules of our Official Chivalry 2 Discord. We hope both changes will help clear up any possible confusion and also help us build a stronger Chivalry 2 community moving forward!

Update 2.10 - Teasers

As mentioned in today’s blog, we’d also like to tease a few fun and exciting new things coming to Chivalry 2 with the next update, 2.10: Duel of the Fêtes! One of the biggest new additions for this update is the introduction of three maps! The first of which, Frozen Wreck, will feature a Free-for-All and Team Deathmatch version ready for players to take on. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/efa640fd8d4bc8e52cfb0a5be967b2c7403cf9f0.png Watch where you step! While fighting on Frozen Wreck, you can never be too sure if the ice underneath your boots will be around for long. Stay tuned for further info on cosmetics as part of the 2.10 campaign pass. It's a Free Weekend for Chivalry 2! On all platforms today including Steam, try Chivalry 2 for free. The Free Weekend lasts until December 11, 2023. We’re excited to be bringing additional updates to Chivalry 2 in 2024. One team objective map that we’re working on is an incredible one, set to deliver one of the most memorable gaming moments in Chivalry franchise history. This map will be coming in 2024, but no longer the next update to Chivalry 2 (update 2.10) - so that we can focus resources on community requested features. In 2024 we are also set to bring players one of the game’s most requested features: Unofficial Servers that players can rent and run themselves!

Unofficial Servers

We’re excited to reveal that Unofficial Servers are coming to Chivalry 2. Whereas “Official Servers” (all servers currently in the game) are rented and controlled by Torn Banner, Unofficial Servers are rented and managed by players. Our aim is to give players more ways to play Chivalry 2 through this new feature. We’re especially excited for the competitive, clan and content creator communities to all gain more control over their own events and initiatives. Through our partnership with server provider Nitrado, users will be able to rent their own server and configure a limited number of custom settings. Stay tuned for more info as we approach the launch of this feature in 2024, and watch for more updates to Chivalry 2’s public roadmap. Onward, to glory!

Good morrow knights! A minor hotfix (2.9.1) has been released that resolves a character customization reset bug, fixes crossparty bugs, as well as two Montcrux map issues.

Customization

• Fixed an issue where character customization and settings would reset

The save data for character customization and settings were set to the incorrect file path, resulting in the failsafe to reset the player’s customization back to the default values. As a result of this fix, your customization may reset once more or return back to their previous customization seen before 2.9’s release. If players on PC wish to keep the customization and settings they made post 2.9’s release, the following workaround can be done:

• Make sure the game is closed
• In your file explorer, navigate to “Chivalry 2/TBL/Saved/Cloud”
• In a separate window, navigate to the location where your game is stored
• Navigate through %localappdata%/Chivalry 2/TBL/Saved/Cloud
• Backup the Cloud folder in your appdata directory
• Copy over the Cloud folder seen in your game directory to your appdata directory
• Start the game

If done correctly, you should see your customization persist.

New Map - “The Reclamation of Montcrux”

Fueled by vengeance, a call to war against Tenosia has risen once again. “We must reclaim our grounds and fight once more for Argon, our one and true King!!” Within days, the Agathians rallied enough troops and marched back into the unknown lands of the South, reaching the great fortress of Montcrux, a battleground scarred by many battles of the past. This is an uphill climb for the Agathians. They must break through the fortress’s walls with petards and avoid a rain of ballista fire from the Tenosians as the bombards continue to fire against the Agathian siege towers and camp. Should they break through, Agathians must then lift the keep’s gates and disable the bombards launching above, reclaiming the fortress as theirs once again.

New Weapon - “Siege Crossbow”

It also has the power to pierce through them. Be wary when hiding behind barricades! While it may deal considerable damage, use caution when reloading, aiming, and shooting, as this is a bulky weapon and you are limited in the amount of shots you can fire. Make them count! 

New Limited Time Gamemode - “Last Peasant Standing”

Who sacrificed our good farmer Shaun to the Mason druids?! (That wasn’t supposed to happen until this weekend!) As a fragile peasant owing fealty to the Agathian Knights or Mason Order, scramble for weapons to defeat the enemy team through multiple rounds! Very limited weapons of war are present on the map, so grab whatever you can find. The victor goes to the team that wins five rounds in total.

• Fixed a crash that would occur when a player tackles another player into a horse

In certain cases, the sprinting value speed would not be set back to zero even though the player was not in a sprinting state. This fix not only addresses this case but also other cases where this issue would happen.

• In a separate window, navigate to the location where your game is stored
• Navigate through Chivalry 2/TBL/Saved/Cloud
• Backup the folder in your game directory
• Copy over the cloud folder in your app data directory to your game location directory

Chivalry 2 players will get to dive into the huge new Team Objective map The Reclamation of Montcrux, try out the new Siege Crossbow, and play new limited time game mode types, along with improvements to combat and quality of life. With update 2.9, the Royal Zweihander and Steam loyalty helmets will be made available for all. 250 Crowns will also be gifted for free to all players over the next week.  We’re also excited to be bringing additional content updates to Chivalry 2 in 2024. One Team Objective map that we’re working on is an incredible one, set to deliver one of the most memorable gaming moments in Chivalry franchise history.  Stay tuned for more updates to Chivalry 2’s public roadmap.

Cross-progression

While we’re pleased to be working on exciting new content and features for the game still to come, we do have some news to share today: cross-progression between Epic Games Store and Steam player profiles will not be implemented in Chivalry 2.  We had previously said this feature would be coming in mid-late 2022, and much time has passed since then. Overall, we underestimated the full development cost for this feature. It would have eaten up considerable development time that, throughout 2022 and 2023, would have meant a much slower cadence of new game updates to Chivalry 2 (and would have continued to do so into the future). We had made some steps towards its implementation when we first spoke about the feature, but paused development on it in 2022 while we took further time to gauge its full development cost.  There are other upcoming features consuming significant development time that we still aim to deliver to Chivalry 2 that we know will serve a much wider variety of players, much like Crossplay Parties did, which we delivered with update 2.8. We understand that many players will be disappointed by this news. This is not an announcement we had wanted to make either, but it is our hope that this message provides some transparency on our decision not to implement cross-progression.

New cosmetics available for all

Seeing the high number of community requests we have decided that alongside the Reclamation Update (2.9) we will be releasing the following cosmetics for all users on all platforms:

• The Royal Zweihander, previously a pre-order exclusive, is now purchasable for 2000 gold
• The Steam Loyalty Helmets are now available for all platforms for 1 gold

We know that many players on Epic, Steam and console platforms wanted to ensure they could access these cosmetics on their platform of choice - so we hope this provides a fair means to accessing the content in the absence of cross-progression.  Players can also enjoy some of Chivalry 2’s purchasable cosmetics with the 250 Crown gift we’ll be granting to all accounts over the course of this week.

New Map - “The Reclamation of Montcrux”

Fueled by vengeance, a call to war against Tenosia has risen once again. “We must reclaim our grounds and fight once more for Argon, our one and true King!!” Within days, the Agathians rallied enough troops and marched back into the unknown lands of the South, reaching the great fortress of Montcrux, a battleground scarred by many battles of the past. This is an uphill climb for the Agathians. They must break through the fortress’s walls with petards and avoid a rain of ballista fire from the Tenosians as the bombards continue to fire against the Agathian siege towers and camp. Should they break through, Agathians must then lift the keep’s gates and disable the bombards launching above, reclaiming the fortress as theirs once again.

New Weapon - “Siege Crossbow”

Unlike its more lightweight predecessor, the Siege Crossbow fires bolts that can deal notable damage to siege weapons and constructables. It also has the power to pierce through them. Be wary when hiding behind barricades! While it may deal considerable damage, use caution when reloading, aiming, and shooting, as this is a bulky weapon and you are limited in the amount of shots you can fire. Make them count! 

New Limited Time Gamemode - “Last Peasant Standing”

The peasantry of Aberfell are having a feud! Whose turn was it to feed the pigs? Who keeps destroying the cabbage wagons?! Who sacrificed our good farmer Shaun to the Mason druids?! (That wasn’t supposed to happen until this weekend!) As a fragile peasant owing fealty to the Agathian Knights or Mason Order, scramble for weapons to defeat the enemy team through multiple rounds! Very limited weapons of war are present on the map, so grab whatever you can find. The victor goes to the team that wins five rounds in total.

As of this morning at 11:30am ET, we have released a minor hotfix (2.8.2) that delivers some general fixes, stability improvements and improvements to some maps including the recent Bridgetown map from the 2.8 Raiding Party Update. Good morrow, knights! As of this morning at 10am ET, we have released a minor hotfix (2.8.1) aimed at resolving some of the issues that appeared in our latest content update, Raiding Party. Below is a list of fixes includes in this hotfix.

General

• Reverted a change to constructable placement limitations having an effect on multiple maps
• Addressed further admin permission exploits
• Fixed an issue where votekicks would not commit reliably
• Fixed an issue where XP and Campaign progression would not save after match conclusion

Crossparties

• Localization fix for missing text in regards unfriending Native Platform friends
• Fixed an issue where the party leader would fail to join a match but other party members would be able to join said match
• Fixed an issue where accepting 2 party invites in quick succession would cause a crash

Chivalry 2 introduces cross-platform parties beta, a brand new Team Objective Map - The Sacking of Bridgetown, the Heavy Cavalry Sword, a new Campaign Pass - Raiding Party, a new gamemode - Mounted Arena, combat changes, and quality of life improvements in Chivalry 2's new Raiding Party Update! CROSS-PLATFORM PARTIES

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/32da0f45a00020edae0fa0bf90457571ec432f49.png We are excited to finally be releasing a beta version of this long requested feature to Chivalry 2, which now allows players to add players to their in-game Friend List from any platform through the use of friend codes. Each player has a unique friend code that can be generated. Once added, players can invite friends and create parties in the main menu, regardless of their platform. Please note that, while this feature is now available for players, it is currently in Beta - which means some bugs and issues can be expected as we continue to improve this feature. If you are having issues with adding a friend or joining a friend’s party, please attempt re-adding your friend or restarting your game.

New Map - “The Sacking of Bridgetown”

The nobles of Irilla and the surrounding lands have come together for a decadent celebration, filling Bridgetown with laughter and joy. The wine flows and the noblemen dance to the music and cheers, this is surely a day that will be remembered for generations to come! Outside the city walls the peasants toil in the fruitful vineyards that provided such an ample supply of fine wines for the festivities. The distant sound of the partying gentry is pierced by a harrowing horn, but this is no horn of the north. The workers grab what meager armaments they can and await the storm. After successfully breaching the bulwark at Baudwyn the Tenosian Empire has begun the second phase of their invasion. In order to further their advance inland they must cross the river through Bridgetown. The Tenosian army will stop at nothing; setting the outlying farms and vineyard ablaze and defenestrating the cowardly nobles.

New Weapon - “Heavy Cavalry Sword”

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/b2549db8591754332b9c44853e6a6b39d9716b3f.jpg With Weathered Heavy Cavalry Sword, Heavy Cavalry Sword, and Decorated Cavalry Sword skins A new one handed weapon for the Man-at-Arms Footman Soldier and Knight Guardian, this sword has long reach and slow swings. In addition, it features incredible prowess on horseback in comparison to other weapons, having slash attacks that differ from its slash attacks on foot. This weapon can also be held forward while inputting a special attack on horseback. Lead the charge!

New Limited Time Arena Mode - “Mounted Arena”

Prove it to the cheering crowd in this new 1v1 mode for Arena enthusiasts! Coming soon as part of our limited time queue rotation, two players on horseback challenge each other to a joust on Tournament Grounds with various weapons. The round doesn’t end until your opponent is completely defeated.

New Campaign Pass - “Raiding Party”

The Raiding Party Campaign Pass has no time limit, so you can earn rewards at your own pace. Play the Raiding Party Campaign Pass at no cost to unlock free currency and armoury items, or upgrade to unlock premium rewards. The Premium Campaign Pass can be purchased for 1000 Crowns in-game.

• New campaign select screen, and the ability to select the active campaign
• New post match notifications of unlocks and campaign progress
• New free campaign pass with 10 customization unlocks
• New premium campaign pass available in the store with 30 additional customization unlocks

Good morrow, Knights! We’re coming to you today to talk a bit about crossplay parties, coming in the next update to Chivalry 2 in “Beta” form. As we continue to work through some of our last test cases, we’re excited to finally be able to share some details about the upcoming release of crossplay parties with you.  On release, the Invite Code system and crossplay party functionality as a whole will be in Beta. This means that players should expect that there may be some functionality that does not work 100% of the time. We want to be transparent with the community in saying that there may be cases where invites or parties do not work as intended.  We also wanted to share a brief explanation of how exactly the new crossplay party feature functions. In order to play in a party with someone on a different platform than you, you will need to add them as a friend via the new Invite Code system. This is the simplest way for us to connect everyone’s player profile data over multiple consoles and platforms. First, navigate to the Social menu. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41614667/b28832a4b196cde04835b5868addd156804caee4.gif From the Friends list you will be presented with an Invite Code. You and your friend will exchange your codes with each other. Both you and your friend need to be online at the same time for the invite to be successful.  You will add your friends using their Invite Code and the Send Friend Request option, by pasting in their Invite code and sending the request. Once you’ve added each other you will both appear on your friends lists and can easily be added to parties with each other.  All of your friends across all platforms will appear on the existing Friends list in the Social menu.  As part of the beta period, we have a list of minor issues currently present that we are already working on resolving in the future which include: 

• A crash occurs when accepting a party invite after immediately being kicked from a party
• New leader's name does not display for other clients on pop-up banner when old leader leaves
• In game UI may be missing some players

While we don’t have a definitive timeline on how long this beta period will be, we are committed to improving the system during this beta period by ironing out these known issues (and more) while allowing players to play with and make use of crossplay parties. We hope to provide you all with a more concrete release date as soon as we’re able to, but until then we’ll be marching towards finally releasing this feature as well as our upcoming 2.8 content update in the not so distant future.
