We're delighted to announce that Calyx v0.2: Leviathan Update is now available to install. This brings the next chapter of the campaign, naval units to build, and a new ocean biome to explore.
A mysterious event has left a region of the planet flooded, and has released a new species of Calyx into the wild.
Place a Shipyard at the water’s edge and start building naval craft. Build the Naval Workshop to unlock upgrades and build the powerful Broadside battleship.
The Comet gunship
The Ark naval transport
The Broadside battleship
This new waterborne Calyx grows in a mesh pattern that blocks the progress of your ships. It fires underwater weapons at your naval units, while also releasing new super-strength amphibious crawlers that assault your beaches.
There’s a strange navy on the horizon, and it’s seeking to liquidate you.
6 campaign maps in the Leviathan region
6 maps added to Skirmish
2 new Challenge maps
Fathom species of Calyx
Marine crawlers
Comet gunship
Ark transporter
Broadside battleship
Shipyard
Naval Workshop
Power Transmitter
Rapier aerial interceptor unit
Preview system for shortcuts
Stop control for all units
Keyboard shortcut to rebuild a destroyed building
Keyboard shortcut to repair a building
Player and enemy range viewer toggles in the HUD
Better info about what changing map difficulty level does
Lots of smaller tweaks and bug fixes
We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part in the playtest and gave us their feedback. We hope you enjoy the new content. You can join our community at the Studio 568 Discord to meet other players, and let us know your thoughts.
Thanks for your support!

We're excited to invite you to take an early look at our upcoming Leviathan Update, including a new ocean biome, the Comet and Broadside fighting ships, the Ark naval transport, and the new Fathom species of Calyx.
4 challenge maps which will form part of the next chapter of the Calyx campaign. The maps are in a newly-discovered region where an ocean has formed.
Build the Shipyard, and manufacture the Comet gunship, the Broadside battleship and the Ark transporter.
Construct the Naval Workshop and upgrade your fleet’s capabilities.
A new species of Calyx that inhabits the ocean, the Fathom grows in a mesh that obstructs the progress of your ships. It grows two kinds of node, a ranged one similar to the Tormentor, and a node that spawns a new species of marine crawlers.
If you took part in a previous Calyx playtest, you should now see "Calyx Playtest" in your Steam library once again.
If you want to request access for the first time, visit the Calyx Steam Page, scroll down and hit the “Request Access” button. You should then see the Calyx Playtest item in your Steam library.
It would be super helpful if you could fill out the playtest survey to let us know your feedback. There's a link to the survey on the Main Menu of the playtest version of the game.
We can’t wait to hear what you think of the new features.
Thanks for your support!

As we said back in March, we’re currently working on a larger update to Calyx, and we’re pleased to be able to share some details of that today.
We can now create maps with water and islands.
A new building that allows you to build ships and transports.
A light and fast boat. Best against weaker enemies, or supporting stronger units.
Transports land-based units across water.
Has large, long-range weapons, effective against targets on land or water.
A facility to unlock and upgrade naval units.
We’re currently working hard on building out and balancing the water based systems. In the meantime you can stay in touch via the Studio 568 Discord.
Thanks for your support! John, Mark & Phil, Studio 568 🙂
We’re delighted to share our first larger update since the Early Access launch of Calyx on 29th January. It’s been brilliant to see so many of you enjoying the first part of the campaign and giving us your feedback via Discord.
Place it on an Isotope patch, connect, and start generating power.
Isotopes are now stored separately to Ore.
Artillery Module
Connect this one to your power grid and the long range mortar on top will spring into life.
Range Boost Module
Boosts all weapon ranges when connected to the grid.
Calyx Suppressor Module
Power this to kill and suppress nearby spreading Calyx.
Added 9 Challenge maps to Skirmish.
Modules are now randomised in Skirmish maps.
Removed mission timers from Skirmish maps.
Phase schedule – add Sand Storms or Solar Storms to a Skirmish.
Set the max enemy level.
We’ve revamped the upgrade system for buildings so there are less steps involved. Build the relevant Workshop, and buildings can be upgraded straight away. No more researching individual upgrades! The Mining Workshop now also contains power related items, and has been renamed the Operations Workshop.
Increased the health of the Meteor and Zeus Cannon units.
Reduced the cost of the Inferno unit, and increased its damage and health.
Increased the damage and health of the Goliath unit.
The Liquidator now repairs its buildings making the Orbital Laser less overpowered against it.
A new Ram formation has been added which puts heavy tanks in the front line.
We now display more stats so it's easier to judge what upgrades will do.
We now show the size of each map on the map's intro screen.
Drag to build multiple versions of buildings like solar panels, turrets and batteries.
Rebuild a destroyed building by selecting its rubble.
Added key bindings for camera rotation.
Added keyboard shortcuts for: select all units, items in the build menu, copy and repair all.
Added an undo key for buildings.
Bound the different time acceleration levels directly to keys.
The game now saves after purchasing upgrades in the Tech Tree.
You can now delete a save from the in-game load and save menus.
The last state of rotation is remembered when placing buildings.
Increased the opacity of the blue ring that shows the Ore Thumper’s area of effect.
We added death animations for Militia and Bastion roots and sprouts.
Added an animation for the Ore Transport rocket’s legs retracting / extending.
Polished the beam VFX for Communication Arrays.
Colour balancing for the Tormentor plant.
We hope you enjoy the new features and changes. We’re now moving on to implementing larger systems, and it will be a little while before our next update. In the meantime you can stay in touch via the Studio 568 Discord. Thanks for your support! John, Mark & Phil, Studio 568 🙂
Greetings Calyx players! It's now been 2 weeks since the Early Access launch, and we'd like to once again thank everyone for their feedback and bug reports.
More forgiving rules for the "lose structures" objective - e.g. you can bulldoze deploying structures, and we allow upgrading / replacing existing structures.
A fix for an issue where your pop cap wasn't returned when cancelling an Orbital Drop during deployment.
Fixed an issue where the tick on the build menu wouldn't disappear when a "build-once" building was destroyed.
The copy feature no longer allows duplication of levelled up buildings.
A fix for an issue where it was possible to replace a Liquidator wall with your own turret.
Fix for a rare crash when selecting a building to build.
When an Ore Transport is is upgraded or bulldozed, its resources are now returned.
Refinery availability is now monitored while a Harvester is driving or waiting off-ramp.
Command upgrades should not have been free - now fixed.
Changes to the tech tree reset function. It now doesn't cancel free technologies, but it does re-hide Epochs.
A fix for skirmish-only isotope patches being visible in campaign map previews.
It's been amazing to welcome so many new players to the community, and we're hugely grateful for your support and feedback!
We're now going to start work in earnest on larger features, and updates will be slightly less frequent as a result. In the meantime, please join our Discord to keep up with our latest plans, share your feedback and meet other Calyx players: discord.gg/EdNejFX8kn

We became aware of an issue where your Campaign autosave progress could be overwritten by a save from another mode.
If you never made a manual save in Campaign and you've continued to play skirmishes/challenges, you may have lost your campaign progress. Sorry about this.
There's a fix in this update (see the changes below), and we've created a group of saves for various stages of the campaign, in case that helps you to get up and running again. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a76ME4-2YYNTU4Dr5HK_txiFrmQwf36K?usp=sharing
- Separated campaign auto saves from skirmish/challenge auto saves
- Added "Reset All Research" to campaign tech tree
- Fix for a crash when buildings near map edge are attacked
- Hide save game in tutorial (where save is not allowed)
- Fix skirmish seeds generating negative values
- Prevent orbital drop on unreachable areas
- Fix for auto save stalling on long-running games
- Key hints panel is shown by default on first run
- Balance units built when multiple factories are selected
- Time stamps on save games should now be in local time
- Made push scroll more permissive
- Removed collision from bushes (it was blocking some passes)
- Reduced objective to 64 units active on "Winding Up"
- Fix for focus getting lost after saving game
- Challenges should not have had difficulty options - now removed
- Upgraded buildings count towards objectives
- Fix for smoke being invisible from some angles
- Show plant sprouts on mini-map
Thanks for your continued feedback and support!
Cheers,
John, Mark & Phil ːsteamhappyː

If you’ve played any of the pre-release demos, you’ll encounter lots of other updates, including a new volcanic biome, improved VFX, more dramatic lighting and the ability to export your end of map summary as a GIF.
We’re a small team, and we’ve worked on Calyx for some time already. We believe the game already offers an entertaining mix of basebuilding, combat and storyline, but there are still mechanics, systems and features missing to make it fully rounded. By offering Calyx to a larger audience before full release, we can receive essential feedback to help us build out the experience and make the final game the best it can possibly be.
Join our Discord, meet other players, swap tips, and give us your feedback. Your support means a lot to us.

Try out 3 Skirmish maps.
If you’ve played any of the pre-release demos, you’ll encounter lots of updates, including attack-move, improved VFX, more dramatic lighting and the ability to export your end of map summary as a GIF.
The previous demo will still be available on the demov3 branch.
More than 110,000 players have now installed the Calyx Demo, which frankly blows our minds. We can’t wait to hear what you think of this first look at the campaign.
Thanks! John, Mark & Phil ːsteamhappyː

We're excited to invite you to play the first section of the upcoming Calyx Early Access campaign. This playtest, and the survey is in English only. The build will be available to play until 18:00 UK on Monday 12th January.
You should see "Calyx Playtest" in your Steam library.
Visit the Calyx Steam Page, scroll down and hit the “Request Access” button. You should then see Calyx Playtest in your Steam library.

We’re now working hard on the Early Access release of Calyx. Here’s an update on some of the new content that’s coming.
We continue the story of the demo, as you and your empathy deficient AI attempt to contact the Avaris Corporation network. Build a communications array and keep the Calyx at bay for long enough to power it up and establish a comms link. Let’s see if those desk jockeys at Avaris HQ are paying attention.
We’re planning an initial 15 maps as part of the Early Access release, some of which take place in a new volcanic biome.
You can now gain Research Points by achieving objectives, and protecting Data Archives on the planet’s surface. You can spend those points in the tech tree to unlock upgrades.
You can now upgrade buildings as well as units. Upgraded units and buildings have visual upgrades like more and bigger guns, and distinctive VFX.
As if dealing with the Calyx wasn’t enough, an enemy faction appears, complete with its own base, factories and units. Things are getting hectic!
Harvesters now behave more intelligently when waiting their turn to enter a Refinery and unload Ore.
You can now hit refresh on a Skirmish map if you don’t like the layout. We’ve also added seeds so you can save and swap Skirmish scenarios with other players.
We’ve done lots of smaller things, like more polished UI and VFX, quality of life features and bug fixes.
We’re not planning to announce a release date now, but we’re working out when it should be, and we’ll let you know once we decide.
In the meantime, thanks for your support, and please join the Studio 568 Discord and meet the Calyx community.
Cheers!

Hey everyone! 👋
We pushed a patch to address a couple of issues:
Upgraded Unreal Engine version to 5.6.1 with the aim of fixing DirectX related crashes on start up which were affecting some PCs.
Fixed an issue related to key binds and the R and X keys. Affected players may need to re-bind those keys.
Thanks!

- Events system - for example, a sandstorm that reduces solar power and weapon range.
- Calyx species get even stronger, and lash out when attacked.
- Build the Unit Workshop to unlock unit upgrades.
- Formation types: select different shapes for groups of units. Use Shift to flip them 180 degrees.
