We'll see you at the end of the month for our first major update, and the arrival of the Modern Catalogue. Pantaloon & Nested Loop
BOXROOM has now been out for two weeks, and so we thought it was about time to present the future of the game to you via our Early Access Roadmap.
Firstly: thanks to everybody that has picked up the game and invested time into their rooms and game sanctuaries. We know there were a few changes and challenges in getting the game out the door, and we want to say thanks for your patience and support here. We'll have something for the Community to say thank you very soon, in fact, keep an eye out here....
We have a well defined path for the next six months, bringing a variety of themes and furnishing expansions to the game, as well as new exclusive partner items and whole new features. To state the obvious: what you've seen at launch is just the start.
Some context and important notes on how this will work moving forward:
Headline Updates will drop the last Thursday of every month
Community Updates (where we'll offer up a new version of the Roadmap with more insight/granularity) will drop the second Thursday of every month
The game will stay in Early Access until November at the earliest, but we want to keep some flexibility based on progress here. We will communicate a firm 1.0 release date when we're comfortable the game is tracking towards its full and final form.
Bug Fixes
We now also check your local steam library cache for games too, you should see more games appear in your libraries that never used to appear.
More Save/Load safety code and fixes applied.
Fixes for placed box props not getting their box art applied on load.
Speeding up games coming onto shelves slightly.
We'll have our first Headline Update for you at the end of next month, but in the meantime to offer feedback, request features, and generally be involved in the early access campaign, please join us on Discord. Nested Loop & Pantaloon x
It was a longer road than we anticipated through to today, but your BOXROOM is ready. We can’t wait to see your game collections and sanctuaries - or whatever other weird, liminal box-spaces you choose to create.
The delay and compromises we’ve been forced to make in order to bring BOXROOM to Steam are not what we envisioned when we first brought the Demo to Steam a few months back. We had little choice here, sadly.
That said, we are still incredibly proud of what you’re (hopefully!) about to play, and have worked tirelessly to line up solutions to get as close to that initial vision as possible. And to be clear: it’s one to one on that front. You will have the same game. There’s just an extra step in the process, which we are unable to point you to directly here. Hopefully you're able to read between the lines here, we've made this as obvious elsewhere as we can.
We should also say that the original, fully-realised version of the game is available elsewhere, too. Please do go down that route if you prefer.
Our original vision for BOXROOM remains intact: we want you to build a room, a sanctuary, for not just your games, but your wider media collection. Your Steam library plays a big part in that, of course, but we've also futureproofed the game for other platforms and laid the groundwork for other media-types entirely. This is what we’ve been hard at work on in the limbo days between the original release date and now.
BOXROOM is now set up for customisation, expansion and evolution in a way we think you'll be very excited about.Your game collection was the first thing moved in, all your boxes are there, so the organisation can begin in earnest.
The EA release of BOXROOM brings 230+ items and furnishings to the game, as well as Steam Workshop integration (so you can share your room with chums), the full ‘90s nostalgia’ collection, a Photo Mode, and a number of VERY COOL and VERY EXCLUSIVE secret partnership items.
Check your game boxes carefully. Some will contain exclusive items which will add bespoke partner pages to a special new catalogue. This roster or partner pages will expands as the game continues through early access.
To celebrate the launch, we've chummed up with four other room-buildy buddies to bring you four BOXROOM Bundles, too. This is great if you want to pick up a duo of banging games, but is ALSO great if you own any of these and want to get yourself a little extra discount on the game by completing the set.
Here's what we got for ya:
BOXROOM x Hozy
BOXROOM x Houseflipper 2
BOXROOM x My Dream Setup
BOXROOM x Small Spaces
There is plenty more to talk about - this is day one of early access, after all, but let's just save that for another day. We have a roadmap with what's next to share with you very soon... Enjoy your new rooms.... pantaloon & Nested Loop x
Right! Ok. It's been a short while since the last proper update, and you're due some news.
Here it is: BOXROOM will launch on June 11th. That’s tomorrow (at time of writing)! Rejoice!
There are some important updates relating to this, though - please read!
As you're probably well aware, BOXROOM uses the Steam API in a rather novel way, and it seems we're one of the very first games to do so: as such, there was no real precedent in terms of a review/approval process. Valve needed to take a bit longer than usual to review the game and approve it for release, and we therefore had a few last minute hurdles to overcome.
We can only apologise for the delay here, but sadly this was out of our hands somewhat.
In order to bring the game to Steam, we've needed to make an important change: BOXROOM will no longer pull your games’ capsule art or screenshots directly. If you’re worried that your library won’t be realised in the same way as before, please don’t be. We have solutions for this already in place. To that point, we urge you to join the Discord and sign up to the newsletter to stay fully in the loop here, and ensure you're ready for updates which realise the full potential of what we've been building…
This might seem like a big shift, but all it does is broaden the scope of what will be possible in BOXROOM down the line.
NOTE: Demo players should not lose access to their original rooms, and anything that was originally cached here should remain in place.
BOXROOM is now set up for customisation, expansion and evolution in a way we think you'll be very excited about.
Well, there’s still plenty in the game you don’t yet know about. BOXROOM has a number of very exciting partners, with games you likely have in your collections that will unlock exclusive and very bespoke items and furnishings from their respective creators. We’re being a little secretive here because we want you to discover these games and items yourselves… --
See you all tomorrow. It's moving in day!

We know a lot of you have been asking the question: where's BOXROOM? We were holding off posting with the hope that we could simply launch into Early Access with slight delay but as things remain unchanged, we owe you this update now.
Last week we experienced an unexpected obstacle in the process of getting the game approved for launch on Steam. We jumped on this immediately, hoping to solve the issue in time for the May 26th launch but unfortunately, at the time of writing, we're still waiting to hear back.
From its development side, the early access build of BOXROOM is all done and raring to go. We're just waiting to clear this one final hurdle before we're able to hit publish and get the game in your hands.
We'll be sharing another update on timings for you next week. Please bear with us!
We're really sorry for this delay.
In a mere seven days, BOXROOM will be launching into Early Access here on Steam.
On Tuesday 26th at 4pm BST / 11am EDT / 8 am PDT / 5 pm CEST - you can begin the wonderful process or organising and displaying your games, then sharing your room with the world.
To use a slightly contrived bit of language: launch is only the beginning, though. We have much in store for you. Each Update in Early Access will bring with it new items and furnishings, which we're grouping into buckets or themes. We launch with 230 odd items, but that number is very rapidly going to get bigger.
For launch, the theme we've dialled into is Nineties Nostalgia. Chunky CRT screens. Beanbags. Decor that harkens back to the bedrooms of our childhoods. I say 'our' as if everybody shares my age. But you've seen stranger things. You get the gist.
The themes that follow have yet to be revealed, but I can tell you that they are each wildly different, and will allow you to put a stamp on your libraries and collections in vastly different ways.
What else can I tell you 7 days out from launch? WELL. BOXROOM will launch into Early Access with a Photo Mode. Not sure we've mentioned that here yet. This too will see new features and iteration as the game is worked on, but - after the demo - we realised that showing your room in the best light, with the best angles, was really key to the experience. And so we whacked a Photo Mode in there. Why not. Expect more features and functionality added to the camera here over time, but we hope it allows you to show off your rooms more elegantly.
There's other stuff to talk about, but there's still a week to go. Let's leave it there for now.
Hiya! Back again with more! You may have noticed but we've now said goodbye to the demo. Thank you so much for all your invaluable feedback on the game so far. And don't worry, your rooms are still going to be there at launch! But, that's not what we're here for today...
We're practically bouncing off the yellow-painted walls to let you all know that BOXROOM will be launching into Early Access on May 26th — yes, in just 15 days!
The game will be priced at $7.99 / €7,99 / £6.99 of your local equivalent!
The Early Access launch will come with over 230 unique items and furnishings, spread across three themed catalogues (90s, DIY and office). The game will also feature a new photo mode and Steam Workshop functionality for you modders out there.
We'll release a proper Early Access roadmap following the launch but expect more new furnishings, room-themes and other major features, all building up to the game's 1.0 release in 2027.
Come join us on Discord to let us know what you're most excited about as we head towards the EA launch.

Well, hello there! It's been five weeks since we announced BOXROOM and in that time, the game has been wishlisted over 48,000 times and the demo downloaded over 52k times, holy wow!
We have absolutely loved seeing your collections and creations, everything from childhood bedrooms to museums and backrooms. Your feedback on the demo has also been invaluable to the development of BOXROOM and in the run-up to its Early Access launch. But speaking of the demo...
This is your last chance to play the demo if you haven't already as it'll be coming down on Monday. Don't worry, your save file will transfer over to the full game at launch!
It's not all doom and gloom though because at the beginning of the week we'll be sharing the Early Access launch date! It's sooner than you think.
Don't forget to join us on Discord to share your rooms and to join the release date announcement hype.
See you on soon x

Holy wow! BOXROOM has shot past another milestone like it was nothing and currently sits at 42,442 wishlists. We've said it a lot already but...
The response continues to humble us, truly!
To celebrate, we have actually just launched another update to the demo and this is a chonky one! However, what you also ought to know is that this will be our final update to the Steam demo before the early access launch which we'll have news on very very soon! You don't have to wait much longer for more BOXROOM. But in the meantime...
Added a VSync option in the settings menu.
Added a Fish Eye lens slider in the settings menu.
Added a setting to make crouch a toggle option in the settings.
Added a setting to remove control hints.
Added a setting to remove screen shake.
UX: Disabled the time slider if system time lighting is enabled.
You can now right-click when looking at the game spawner box to bring up a search menu, and search for games to spawn in.
We now have 3 types of box spawners, each with its own sorting method. The default load order, Alphabetical, and Playtime sorted.
Lights brightness levels are now saved.
You can now click objects which have game screenshots on to cycle through the screenshots.
An auto save now triggers for the game every 10 minutes
Added various clocks to the game. You can also click on a clock to open a time adjustment menu.
Placement rotation now happens in 45 degrees steps.
Changed the way we scrape for steam game box art, using a new list of file names that we could possibly get back from steam. This should result in a lot less missing games from your libraries.
If you have feedback for us, you can still find the form here! And join us on Discord to share your rooms with others, too. We're already building a nice little community over there!
Keep on creating and see you soon x

Steam's House and Home Fest has come to a close, and BOXROOM has now seen just shy of 30,000 demo installs, and - at time of writing - 31,055 wishlists. FLIPPIN' 'ECK! THANK YOU! The response to the game's big hook of physicalising your Steam library has really resonated, and seeing players share recreations of their bedrooms as kids, game caves as teens, or some new aspirational space that never existed but now does has been incredible to see. We've been given mountains of feedback, too, most of which has now been worked back through to the dev team to turn into a prioritised production plan taking us to the early access release date - which we hope to be able to share with you before long. We have a long list of features, furnishings and ideas that never made it into the demo, which we're now hard at work on.
IMPORTANT: We're going to keep the demo live for a couple of weeks, but this will come down at some point between now and the EA launch. If you have feedback, we're keeping the feedback form here if you'd like to share thoughts. You can, of course, join us on Discord and share your rooms with others there, too.
There's much more to talk about, but that's one for another day. Don't be strangers x

What's up roomies!? (told you we were going to stick with this)
Following all of your fantastic and helpful feedback on the BOXROOM Demo we have snuck in another lil Demo update for you.
Keep that feedback coming (you can send via the survey here) as we're still very closely listening to everything you send our way as we prep for the exciting Early Access launch later this spring!
DEMO 0.7.13 PATCH NOTES
Reset button added to the settings which resets the player location in the room.
FOV change option added in the settings.
Headbob/Breathing Noise enabled option added in the settings.
Look sensitivity option added in the settings.
Manual save option added.
Bugfix : Fixed an issue where when deleting games boxes, the games inside would not re-appear in new or current game boxes.
Bugfix : Fixed the large couch not abiding to the grid, and not having the ability to be deleted.
Bugfix : Fixed an issue where you could not delete a desk if you had just deleted an item that was on top of it.
Bugfix : Fixed an issue where shelf box positions would get de-synced if you spam swapped boxes. Increased the distance required to be away from a wall to shrink it, this should stop people shrinking a wall into themselves and falling into the void.
Bugfix : Fixed a bug where hovering to delete a window would wipe its painted wall material.
Bugfix : Added a potential fix in for an instance where shrinking a block with a window in would let the window data persist and cause a hole when expanding back into that block.
Bugfix : Fixed the disclaimer text getting stuck on the screen when leaving the HUD too fast.

And thanks again for an incredible 20,000 wishlists in the first five days since the game's announcement!

Two days since our last little milestone update, we're here with another! BOXROOM has now been wishlisted well over 20,000 times, with over 16k demo activations. Crikey.
We'd also like to thank all of you for giving us such detailed and copious feedback (form here, for those that haven't and would like to) - this is now all being prioritised and worked back into our production plans as we carve a path to an early access release date a little later this year.
We're also putting together a little catalogue of our own, collating all the interesting rooms and ways players have organised their collections - if you've made a cool space, send it to us (Discord or Steam discussions probably best) and we'll pull together into something cool to share with the community.
We'll have more for you very soon. CHEERS x

Oh hey roomie! How are you? You look nice today.
We lifted the lid on BOXROOM not 48 hours ago, and have just crossed the 10,000 wishlist threshold - so we wanted to toot our horn a little bit.
The concept of turning your Steam library into something tangible - something you can pick up and turn around in your hands - has really resonated, and it's been incredible to see news about the game hit the likes of GameSpot, Polygon, RPS and Engadget, amongst others.
We've also rolled out a first update to the Demo (patch notes here), with other fixes and QOL improvements en route.
We've also been inundated with feedback for feature requests, item/decoration wants and other ideas. We are currently working through all of this as we pave a course to the game's Early Access release a little later this year.
Thanks for all the support and noise, and we'll have more to share very soon....

What's up roomies!? (literally just thought of that right now and it's brilliant, going to use that more) We're a day since announce and dropping the BOXROOM Demo as part of Steam's House and Home Fest, but we already have a little Demo update for you (need to get ourselves into a good update rhythm with Early Access just around the corner...)
Just some small bits for now, but we're listening very closely to everybody's feedback from the Demo (which you can send our way via the survey here) as we gear up for more dramatic additions, fixes and features. DEMO 0.7.12 PATCH NOTES
Small SFX pass and Polish to placing games, objects.
Toolbar UX and SFX pass
Implemented a Max FPS setting
Bugfix : Stopping the games box from trying to place on itself when looking at a certain angle
Bugfix : Fixed a save issue, where upon loading the game with no previous data and making a new room, your original save would get wiped
--
Chunky thanks to everybody that's taken the time to play the Demo so far (and furnish us with 4000+ wishlists in 24 hours!) - the response has been wild, honestly, and we're very excited about showing you what's next for the game....
Hark! It is time for us to announce a new game. A game about your games, in fact.
BOXROOM boots your actual Steam library into a space you can design, define and decorate to your tastes. You can then arrange your Steam library in whatever way best pleases your brain. By genre? By creator? Alphabetically!? You monster.
Pick games from the shelf to inspect them properly, and - should the mood take you - boot the game right there and then. BOXROOM is a launcher to other games as well as a game in its own right.
If you long for the days of physical games and instruction manuals and burying your nose in a freshly popped box for a hit of plasticky goodness then BOXROOM has you covered. Oh and we've made a Demo available right off the bat as part of Steam's House and Home Fest. No messing about. Go start work on a room of your own.
Played the demo? We'd love your thoughts! We're seeing what features and furnishings BOXROOM players might want as we enter Early Access, and tailoring the ongoing development accordingly. If you have a spare couple of minutes, take our quick survey.
Take the survey!
Add the game to your wishlist for updates and whatnot. We have some big ones planned...
More soon. Follow Pantaloon on Steam
