Hi folks! It's been a while. We've been hard at work on our next game, The Old Flesh Of Nuraga, but we found ourselves with some free time on our hands and could dedicate some more love to Birds Watching. Please continue reporting any bug you encounter, as we do keep track of them and will try to fix as much as possible!
Keep watching,
Nicola
Fixed a softlock in some conversations (feathers/worms/beak sequences). In some cases, right after these scenes the dialogue box could get stuck empty with no text and no way to continue. This was caused by a timing issue during the visual transition in these scenes and has been fixed.
Fixed a freeze when interacting with objects. Pressing the interact button repeatedly could occasionally leave the game unresponsive once a conversation ended, with movement, item switching and item use all stopped. This happened in a very small timing window as the dialogue box was closing, and has been fixed.
Fixed "Continue" resetting your story and quest progress. When resuming a game after closing and reopening it, your narrative progress and active quests could reset, even though your bird catalogue stayed intact, sometimes leaving objectives impossible to complete. Continuing a save now correctly restores your story and quests. (Progress made from this patch onward is fully preserved. Saves already affected by the old bug will recover their story progress, and quests will reappear as you keep playing.)
Fixed the item hotbar sometimes disappearing after a conversation. If a conversation began while you were holding up an item such as the map or the binoculars, the hotbar could stay hidden afterwards until you switched item. It now always comes back once the conversation ends.
Fixed missing dialogue box styling in narration-style scenes, where the speaker name label could fail to render its background properly.
Improved performance and stability. Some leftover data on several tree models was silently spamming engine warnings that impacted performance.
Hello there, birders!
In case you missed it, the demo for our new horror game, The Old Flesh of Nuraga, is part of Steam Next Fest.
The demo will stay up after Next Fest ends as well, but now is a great time to try it out and leave a review, if you'd like to help Nuraga reach as many people as possible.
Stay birdy (and nuragic),
Luca from Studio Ortica
Hi everyone!
We just wanted to say thank you for giving Birds Watching a chance!
We’re almost at 1,000 copies sold in the first two days, and the reception so far has been incredible. We’ve already reached 38 reviews and they’re all positive! It’s been amazing to see people already excited for our next game, and also to watch others compare this one with Loan Shark and pick their favorite.
We're excited to see people playing the game, like the great BigGaming:
Plus a lot of italian creators we love, like Poldo, Yotobi and Prof. Toniolo. This time even magazines like PC Gamer and Multiplayer.it have covered the game!
Yesterday we took the day to celebrate the game’s release with some friends at the park. We did a bit of bird watching, and we also played “Birds Watching Live”, a sort of hide-and-seek where one player had to find and catalogue all the birds hiding in the park (the other players) while the monster chased her down.
We’re reading all your feedback and looking forward to fixing every issue you’ve been reporting, starting with the unachievable achievements and the soft locks that occur when acquiring a beak.
Thank you again, and see you on the mountain!
Hello there Birders!
We're finally ready to fly: Birds Watching, the first birding horror game set in the Italian Alps, is out now on Steam.
Buy it, play it, leave a review, and let us know what you think (it's discounted for launch ohoh).
Birds Watching wasn't an easy game to make. We'll share a more in-depth post on our newsletter and here on Steam later this month about the full development cycle, but we wanted to say a few words now.
The biggest challenge was Loan Shark. Funny, isn't it? We felt compelled to make a game as good as Loan Shark, even though rationally we knew that the stars wouldn't most likely align twice in a row. It wasn't stressful but it was tiring, and it took longer than we expected.
And yet here we are: release day. We're proud of what we made and know that, whatever the result will be, we like our game. It's only the second step of a much longer journey here on Steam, so we don't want to put too much pressure on these poor birds.
Thanking time now!
Thanks to all the players who supported us with their feedback and their dedication.
Thanks to our friends, who among other things supported us by playing Deadlock after work.
Thanks to our families, who tolerated us talking Birds Watching all the time.
Let's fly!
Hi folks!
This is a short, narrative-driven horror experience where you play as the last human on Earth, long after the planet has burned to ashes.
The air still tastes of smoke. You spend your days on a lonely mountain, watching birds, the only creatures that survived the fire. Observing them becomes routine. Comforting, even.
But something isn’t right.
Because you’re no longer alone up there.
We’ve also released our very first trailer. Take a look below!
You can Try the Demo Now! We’d love to hear your thoughts, your feedback helps us make the final experience even stronger.
Thank you for following the project and supporting us. Wishlist the game, try the demo, and let us know what you think!
See you on the mountain.
