Bingo Betty is available NOW!
For anyone who has been listen to me yammer on about this project for the past year, or anyone who ever saw a gif or screenshot and made a slight exhale of breath from their nostril, to anyone to played and uploaded their experiences with the game as a video or steam, and even you, silent lurker who has never interated with me or the fanbase, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!! I could never have gotten this far without each and every one of you!
Bingo Betty is a bingo roguelite about a group of broke, elderly, very competitive people who found the highest-stakes game in town and can't be talked out of playing it. The tournament is underground. It goes further underground than anyone told them.
You Draw balls, you build chains across a queue of cards, you spend money you don't have on items you probably shouldn't, and a few floors down the management starts fighting back.
What's In It
A Bingo game with a combo system. Placements chain into each other. A Blot sets off an autodraw, the autodraw carries a ball onto your next card, and that ball starts the next thing. The best runs are the ones where you stop playing for a few seconds and watch the board finish the job.
Eight seniors who play differently. Different card sizes, different Draw budgets, different starting items, and each one bends which specials they tend to see. Betty doesn't play like Linda. Lou doesn't play like Lou did last run.
Seven floors and fourteen bosses. Demons on the way down, angels once the Fever is high enough. They put sins on your card, they hit your board, and they take it personally.
Hundreds of items, cards and scratchers. Passives, Blots, flairs, special spaces, sins, virtues, holds, and a shop run by Lou, who is happy to explain why the price is fair.
A cast that talks. Hundreds of conversations that open up as your Fever rises. Every pair of characters in the game meets somewhere. One run only surfaces a handful of them, so the parlor isn't the same place twice.
Multiplayer. Head to head, or tournaments up to 64 players, with a deck and card builder, charge, energy types and response chains.
Coming From The Demo?
The full game is everything the demo had plus the rest of the building. Full 1.0.0 patch notes are in a separate post. It's long, and most of it is the cast.
Thank you. Demo feedback rebuilt the Draw loop, the scoring, the shop economy and the tutorial. A lot of what's good in this version exists because somebody took the time to say what wasn't working.
The demo stays up for now, but I will no longer be updating it to keep feature parity with the main game. (Any game-breaking fixes or otherwise necessary non-content additions may also make it in to the demo as hotfix items, but not much.)
This is because It will be coming down when a future, major content update ships. Which update exactly this will be, is TBD. There will be another announcement with ample time beforehand to herald the end of the demo's availability.
If you own it, it will stay installed and playable, and its data is kept separate from the full game's, so nothing you've done disappears.
What's Next after launch?
1.0 is the finished game, but it will also serve as a foundation. There's more coming, and here's a short, non-exhaustive, non-ordered list of some of the things I still would like to add to the game.
Bug fixes and balance changes. And I'm not talking about the fun-ruining kind. I just want to make sure that some of the barriers I put in place are actually surmountable to people who aren't me
General visual improvements. Many of the older assets do not align with my vision for the game, I want to bring a lot of the art more in line and/or redesign things if necessary to improve the style of a lot of the older, rougher visual elements in the game.
More languages. The game is being prepared for translation. The cast talks a great deal and all of it has to land, so this one gets done properly instead of quickly.
Endless Mode. The tournament without a bottom floor, for the people who finished it and asked what else was down there.
Sound Test. The soundtrack and every sound in the game, in one place, with a play button.
Mulitplayer updates. New cosmetics, new challenges, and (maybe) new ways to play with and destroy your friends!
Holiday Events. The denizens of the house like to get down too! These will also come with their own fun little decorations and maybe even some new dialogues with your favorite characters!
More of everything. New items, cards, scratchers, seniors, and new conversations added in pieces through the year rather than all at once.
Community design contests. I would like to gather up some community suggestions and ideas for characters as well as items and cards! If you think of some new crazy idea I wanna see It! I especially would like to do character vote tournaments inspired by the in-game tournaments!
Retirement Home. The big one. It's a new mode, and it's where your winnings are going to start going. That's all I'm saying about it for now.
Smaller updates land between those: balance passes, fixes, accessibility work, and new dialogue as it gets written. Stay tuned for more!
Talk To Me About It
Bug reports, balance arguments, screenshots of ridiculous chains and complaints about Lou all belong in the Steam discussions. It's one person making this, and I have a full time job in between working on all of this bingo madness, but I try as hard as I can to lurk and read everything! even if I may not reply directly, I'll probably see it at some point, and those reports really do turn into the most fruitful patches!
If you like it, leaving a review helps more than you'd expect. Thanks for playing!
